Amrita - Shanghai

I have visited this restaurant multiple times since it's near my location, but I have never been truly satisfied with the experience. The food lacks flavor and excitement, even the supposedly spicy dishes are bland and lack any real kick.

Since relocating, Amrita now has a new, simple, clean, and elegant space. While the menu is not fully established yet, they have set meal options for 32 RMB that cater to local tastes. We attended the soft opening night, so service was a bit frenzied, but the food was fantastic. The kartoffels and rice roasted pancakes were so delicious that we ordered another serving. The dumplings were just as scrumptious as before. The owner suggested some unique dishes that were surprisingly tasty. I will provide an updated review after my next visit, hopefully when they have settled into their new location.

I want to start by saying that the name and atmosphere of this place may mislead you to think it's a healthy, delicate vegan yoga garden, but it's actually a standard Chinese vegetarian restaurant (with plenty of oil in their dishes). I'm not upset because the food was good. I ordered wide beans, which I always get when I see them on the menu, and they were delicious. The dish had dried chilies and a variety of seasonings, giving it great flavor without being too spicy. They were out of black mushrooms, so they gave me another cold mushroom dish as a substitute, which was satisfying. The fresh apple juice was good, although it arrived after I had finished two dishes. They also served a complimentary sweet crimson soup, which was a nice surprise. The highlight was the mushroom cake. They have four types of cakes, each for 15 rmb. It was like a high-quality version of a torte that you could get on the street for 2-3 rmb. It's definitely worth coming back for the cake alone. The host was attentive and sweet, and the kitchen did their best to ensure everything was done well and on time. I'll definitely be returning soon.

So a tasty bite to find this wonderful restaurant. tasting in every sight. a lot of wonderful aromas. service was perfect. fun.

Had a lovely meal here. Not too hard to find. Friendly staff and a large choice of foods. Lots of mock meats also. Not open until 10pm as stated. Closes at 9pm.
