While I found it slightly overcooked and dry for my taste—which seems to be a common occurrence here—the flavor was still commendable. The chocolate surprise dessert (a chocolate cake) was enjoyable. The Captain's Platter provided good value, consisting of salmon, battered shrimp, and battered halibut (as shown in the photo). The seafood chowder was also satisfying. The corn side had an intriguing flavor with hints of pepper, and the cornbread was tasty. The garlic butter rice was well-prepared, with rice cooked to an al dente texture. Service was decent; our group of five only waited about 20 minutes despite the restaurant being busy. **Cons:** The coleslaw was a bit too heavy on the yogurt for my liking. **Overall:** Food rating: 4/5 – some of the best salmon in Seward, with other dishes being quite good, though nothing extraordinary. Service rating: 3.5/5 – the friendliness and wait times were average to above average. Value rating: 3.5/5 – likely one of the better value spots in Seward, but keep in mind it's still Seward.
Our server was very friendly and efficient, and there was a good selection of local draft beers on tap. I ordered the sockeye salmon sandwich, which was delicious, and we also indulged in the homemade berry cobbler with ice cream, both of which were excellent. The atmosphere had a charming and eclectic lodge vibe that suited the area well. I was thoroughly impressed; the food was definitely not subpar, so I highly recommend giving it a try.
My husband and I shared the Captain's Plate, which was more than enough for us. The food was delicious, although I found the salmon a bit dry. However, the halibut chunks and shrimp were fantastic! Our son's French fries were perfectly cooked—crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I did take off one star from my rating because, despite being a family-friendly place and having a spacious restroom, there was no changing table available for my son's diaper change. Having changing tables in family-oriented establishments is important for parents with young kids, so I felt it was worth mentioning. Overall, if we ever visit Seward again, we would definitely consider returning to this place!
Charming rustic restaurant with excellent drinks, delicious food, and friendly service. We started with the salmon chunks as an appetizer, and they were fantastic. We shared the captain's platter along with a cup of salmon chowder, which was the best I’ve ever tasted. To top it all off, we enjoyed a homemade blueberry cobbler (crisp). I would definitely return!
Without a doubt, this is the best salmon bake in Seward! The simple salmon bake dinner, served with a baked potato (which was delicious!) and perfectly cooked corn, was fantastic. The portion size was very generous—I didn’t even have room left for dessert. We also ordered a steamed clam appetizer to share; it was prepared with white wine and a generous amount of garlic. The broth was so good that you’d want to drink it! My dad gave it two thumbs up! The seafood chowder was packed with salmon and chunks of scallops. We ordered a bowl to share, and it made for a great appetizer. If you find yourself in Seward, you absolutely must visit this place. You won’t regret it!
