The chef was also very flexible and prepared a vegetarian meal especially for me (as there weren't any options on the menu). It was good, but I wasn't overly impressed. On the other hand, my boyfriend was talking about his veal dish for the rest of the weekend. Needless to say, Cheval Blanc is worth a visit.
We tried this restaurant in our way to Epernay. We liked the set-up & expected a "hidden gem", but I guess it was just another restaurant in the area: service not particularly friendly, food ok, but quite pricey - briefly: nothing special.
Having known and stayed at this hotel/restaurant a few times in its former state, we were well aware that the lovely rooms over the other side of the road in the renovated mill had been sold and that the restaurant was in new hands. The rooms are now a Gite and the restaurant has changed dramatically not only in style but also in terms of their menu. The previous owners had a list of Champagnes to die for but maybe that's why they sold up! We miss the old style which is perhaps unfair on the new brigade but reality!Down to the menu. Starters - foie gras, lobster and duck as mains, with a bottle of Bouzy Rouge. The police are around in force in the area, so do be careful what you drink. The food was well-prepared and presented, the service was good but the whole place lacks that Je ne sais quoi........what a shame as they have no doubt invested heavily in the new (very modern) decor and there is not much choice in the area.
We used to stay at this hotel overnight when our children were small - some 15 years ago, when food in the restaurant was special. We revisited for Sunday Lunch - the hotel closed but the restaurant re-furbished in style. It was nice to see several other tables occupied by French diners who were not tourists. 3 of us chose from set menu at €26 for 3 courses, and we were each happy with our choices though there wasn't anything outstanding. The carafe of house red wine was a good syrah/grenache. Service & pace was good. I feel this restaurant is a perhaps work in progress.
Worth booking for the excellent prix fixe menu 26 euros of four course spring splendour alongside a well priced champagne list (big houses and local artisans, I prefer the latter to be honest)
