Costa - Selby

The manager greeted us warmly and the coffee was excellent, as always. The seating and table were very comfortable.

The restaurant had a dark and gloomy atmosphere, with empty hand sanitizers and a young lady who served us in a disinterested manner without ever smiling. The premises seemed dirty and rundown, prompting us to ask for our table to be cleaned. The window frames were in terrible condition, covered in dirt and with dead flies and crumbs on the windowsill. Given the ongoing concerns about Covid, we did not feel comfortable with the overall cleanliness of the restaurant, and as a result, this will be our last visit.

Came for a quiet catch up with my friend, to find the whole ground floor cordoned off as it had been cleaned- fair enough but at 6.30, a little early! We managed to get a seat downstairs but the drinks were nothing special, a lukewarm cup of tea and a hot chocolate full of powdered lumps. Added to that, the excessive furniture moving session upstairs was not conducive to our catch up as we could barely hear each other! Maybe the staff should be more bothered about customers than making their roll ups!

Surley girls working on a Sunday barely a hello, let alone the service that Costa expect or used to expect was provided. Insipid looking small Americano no crema despite having less water in (my request) possibly due to the haphazzard way the grinder is used giving half doses! Shame with the Lemon Tree closed its possibly going to busier, need to up your game.

We have visited this Costa three times in the past few weeks, only to find a sign saying "Due to unforeseen circumstances...takeaway only." It's a disappointment to walk 15 minutes to the cafe and not be able to eat inside. This place is a joke. When we were able to sit inside, we were served in paper cups. It makes us question why we are paying "eat in" prices. The staff appears undertrained and unsure of their duties. The tables are never sanitized or wiped down. We do not recommend this restaurant.
