Previously, the food was inconsistent, but during the last 2-3 weeks, I have visited multiple times and have been pleased with each meal.
This cafe has long been one of my favourite places to eat as the food is great, the staff are lovely, the prices are reasonable and the setting within the garden centre is really nice. However, I was disappointed yesterday when I asked if I could have the gammon, egg and chips from the main menu but without the gammon as I don't eat meat. The server asked the chef who replied that he could do that for me (like he was doing me a big favour) but that I'd still have to pay full price. Given that I'd have to be an idiot to pay almost thirteen quid for two fried eggs and a portion of chips, I politely declined. I reckon double eggs and chips would be a very popular addition to the menu and ask that the management be a bit more flexible. BTW, I ended up with a cheese and caramelised onion toasty. Unfortunately it was cold. I should really have taken it back but chose not to make a fuss.
Staff not very friendly. Cup which was given to me was dirty. I asked for a clean one and was passed to me without an apology nor a smile. I just feel like It was too much trouble for them. Food quite expensive.
We ordered two coffees, a cake, and a scone. The scone was large but extremely dry, with only a tiny bit of jam. We were disappointed with the lack of food hygiene, as there were flies around the uncovered food. We would not return to eat at this restaurant.
I visited the Topiary Restaurant at Lady Green Garden Centre last week for lunch. I hadn't visited this place for years but having heard some glowing reviews from family, I decided to give it another try. Although we arrived around 12pm, the restaurant was far from full so we weren't fighting over tables. We were served quickly at the counter by two members of staff, who between them were working very efficiently. I ordered the tuna sandwich on brown which was absolutely delicious. The cost of this was around £6.75, which admittedly sounds expensive. However, the quality of the food meant that this was good value for money and I really enjoyed my lunch. The sandwich was also served with fresh side salad. We also ordered some chips which came beautifully presented in a mini deep fryer (want for a better word! . This place also served hot food, as well as toasted sandwiches, so there's enough choice for everyone. The hot drinks were also very good. I was also pleased with the general presentation of this café. It looks to have been recently refurbished as the place appeared modern and sleek. There is plenty of seating so there was no shortage of available tables, even when the place got busier towards 1pm. The whole restaurant, including the toilets, was also nice and clean. The only downside is that we sat at a booth table, which was located close to an air conditioner, meant that it was a little cold sat there. Having said that, air conditioning is a Godsend when it gets hot! Overall, there is very little to complain about with this café. Although the menu, at first glance, admittedly appears simplistic, this place delivers on its excellent execution of what it does serve. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience here and I would definitely recommend and return myself!
