The beef: 8 ounce patty was strong and tasted like a 100% chuck burger. The fat content was on average - about 20%. The burger was juicy, and this was reinforced again by the moist, dense, bun. The Burgerpatty was only strong enough to stay on the palate and to keep itself. The Seasoning: I observed that the nice man behind the grid mat hit the burgers with a salty mix of spices on both sides of the Patty as she fades away. The wort was suitable to stand up to a thick burger and also thick rolls. The cheese: Tillamook Cheddar...eff yeah! The cheese was a decadent supplement by texture. It added a cream to feel solid mouth. The iron and saltiness also served to supplement the combination of beef and bread. The meat to Bun Ratio: That was perfect. The rabbit paired beautifully with the beef patty to provide a consistent bite during the meal. Friends: There was none. The burgers came with onion rings. In other words, all that and a bag of rings honestly, who needs pommes? The Toppings: I ordered Texas style, so extra pickles and extra mustard. Mmm. Burger Review: If you find yourself from Retro, stop by and enjoy a Cheeseburger... You'll be happy you did.
Great bar. Great food (cheeseburger and fries simple yet satisfying) can’t wait to go down the menu and try it all. AND — Nick the bartender was the best. So excited to find a new place in a town I’m passing through.
DIVE BAR, but seriously in all the best ways. Low key place where the locals hang out, with friendly, chill staff, good drinks that are a good price and a solid kitchen. A funny story, we were staying in Seattle last month before we went on a cruise. My father in law wanted to take us out to a nice dinner, fine dining, but the bistro he took us to was at a hotel and due to low staff, they were only serving people staying in the hotel that night. He has diabetes and we need to find a place to eat pretty quickly so he could take his medication. I had read about the good burgers at Retro but didn’t know anything else about it. I suggested we go there because it was just a couple blocks away. When we walked in the door, it was obvious that this was a VERY different ambience than what my father in law had been expecting, LOLOLOL. Basic bar, plain wood tables, maroon walls with old rock posters, a skeleton in a Santa suit…you know, your usual dive bar motif. At this point everyone was hungry so we decided to stay even though Papa looked a little nervous. We had the best time! The servers were so nice, there was a cool local beer menu, our food was good tasty burger, delicious meatloaf sandwich and I really loved the two shots that I had the Washington apple and the Rainier cherry! There were people playing pool in a separate room, and they had table games out so we grabbed Jenga while we were waiting for our food. Turns out, it was naughty truth or dare Jenga and we laughed our heads off playing while we had our dinner. My teens thought it was great, and I can promise you we enjoyed the laid back atmosphere way more than we would have at some snooty hotel bistro. Once he got his food, even my father in law had a good time. Thank you Retro for an unexpectedly memorable Seattle experience!
Went to Retro with my husband our first night in town. I looked up restaurants near our hotel and it came up and the menu sounded good. We went in and it was a cute little bar. It is also very reminiscent of home and I think that made me like it more. I ordered a Caesar salad and my husband ordered the meatloaf hoagie. My salad, while very fresh with yummy croutons, was a little dry. However, the meatloaf hoagie was to die for. The meatloaf was essentially a giant meatball and was delicious. But more than that, the hoagie roll was so good. I was truly pleased that my husband shared with me. Also the fries that came with his sandwich were delicious too! I would come back again and just not order the Caesar, but that’s my fault. It’s bar food and I ordered a salad. Also we started with the mozzarella sticks which were hot, fresh, and very good. The service was great too! We were tended to several times and our waters were filled probably four times. Such a cute little hole in the wall!
Close to our concert venue Got busy as doors for the concert got closer. On line menu. Old folks like us had a bit of a problem getting the menu. Food came out quickly for as busy as th Kitchen was. Fat juicy burger, fresh cut fries. Simple quesadilla and salad was nicely plated.
