The fish was moist, but the batter was overly thick and greasy, so I ended up removing it and just eating the fish on its own. The clam chowder was quite bland and definitely needed more salt. On the bright side, the scotch egg was fantastic. The staff were very friendly. It might have just been an off day, so I would consider returning.
The fish and chips taste more like a doughy funnel cake. The tartar sauce is really disappointing. However, the fries are decent. On the bright side, the atmosphere and vibe of the place are fantastic!
During my visit, I came across this restaurant online and, being a fan of authentic British fish and chips, I made the effort to take a bus to Ballard. Luckily, it was happy hour when I arrived, so I ordered the happy hour fish and chips. It was the perfect portion size and reasonably priced. The fish was wonderfully crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, while the chips were hot and flavorful. As a Brit, I'm not accustomed to cold crushed peas, but I found their mint flavor quite enjoyable. I highly recommend this place if you're a fan of pubs or fish and chips!
A happening pub with a decent crowd. Perfect Friday night pub. A wide variety of drinks y good vibes. Enjoyed my evening with my family.
I had read in a local newspaper of the top 10 places in Seattle to have authentic Fish and Chips. I was delighted to see Macleod in Ballard was 5 minutes from home. Friday we decided to go. They have your choice of either Cod or Halibut. Halibut being a little more expensive. We decided on Cod. Having eaten in many British pubs, restaurants and households I believe I am a good judge on not only good but authentic Fish and Chips. I was not disappointed. It was a fairly large piece of fish that was notably thicker than most restaurants serve. The breading wa crispy and fish juicy and cooked perfectly. The accompanying Chios were great as well. I ordered clam Chowder (Friday) had to. Based on a recommendation of a reviewer on Yelp. I agree that is was second best chowder in Seattle next to Pikes Place. We also had Scotch Egg hard to get right but they did, good work! Atmosphere was charming and comfortable. Our only knock would be on service. The gentleman server was more interested in talking to female server than helping us. From missing menus, not everyone getting a glass of water and a rather short attitude. So for food and good atmosphere great place. If your looking for top notch service experience then pass.
