The wait staff are wonderful, very friendly, and extremely attentive. The place was very clean and updated all the way. The food was.... ok. Not bad, but not spectacular. I'm sure they're consistent and detail orientated with plating, so if you send up loving the food you're in luck if you live close by. For me, I enjoyed visiting once, but don't need to fight for a reservation again. The halibut special was pretty and filling, but was lacking something special. I felt like I could have made it at home. My husband wasn't very hungry and was just tagging along, so he ordered the eggplant appetizer. It wasn't bad, but it was very thin and was only 4 slices for $24. Again, it didn't taste bad, but it seemed unreasonably overpriced. I'm also a dessert lover, so I was disappointed they only had Gelato available. It wasn't their fault, but I would have loved some Italian dessert options if they had more than ice cream. Overall, it's worth one trip to decide for yourself if you like the place.
We celebrated a special event here as well as patrons of Anjelica’s for many years. They are an amazing collection of people with spectacular food. PLUS BYOB
The food, service and atmosphere are always exceptional. The best!
The food was incredible however the desserts left much to be desired. Would still eat here again as the fish and pastas were delicious
I am always amazed that people will favor a particular eatery over another for no other reason than the size of the crowd or the difficulty in getting a reservation. Tragically, there is an army of lemmings out there who fall for these obvious deceptions. Such was the case with our dining experience at Angelica 's last Friday evening so, let 's begin. After a one month wait to get a table AND the rule of losing my reservation should I be a mere 15min. late, I entered. My first observation, there were WAY too many tables both inside and out. Dining El-fresco is not my thing especially when it 's 99 in the shade with 99% humidity but, that 's just me. Our server was a very affable young man, very attentive, with an obvious photographic memory which I complimented him on after resighting at least ten specials in detail. After perusing the menu, I noticed if I wanted the pork chop, I had to give the house at least a 45min. prior notice! What??!! Needless to say, I did not order the chop. Next, appetizers, not bad. Their homemade chips with hot peppers, very creative. Next, main course. My personal test is how an eatery makes veal saltimbocca, which I and my wife ordered. Sorry, we were not impressed. Finally, mercifully, desert and coffee. Now, another of my tests is how a restaurant makes their coffee. It 's important. Right? Right. Well, the coffee or what I think was coffee was almost undrinkable! The only other desert worth mentioning was the gelato imported from Nasto 's in the ironbound section of Newark. Outstanding! Check please, oh, by the way, read the fine print, Angelica 's will charge you a 2 1/2% surcharge for paying with any credit card. All in all, a very uneventful, uninspired dining experience. I 'll give it a meager 4 out of 10 and I 'm being kind.
