The only downside was that the bed was against a wall, making it difficult to get in and out, hence the 4-star rating. Overall, I would stay again. XXX
The drinks at this restaurant were not great, definitely not the best. The selection was very limited.
This charming village hotel is a peaceful escape from the city. The room was comfortable with a good en-suite, although there were occasional noises from neighboring rooms. The bed was cozy, but there were visible damp patches on the walls. Unfortunately, there was no WIFI in the room, only downstairs in the bar/restaurant area. The price of £135 per night for bed and breakfast seemed high considering the damp and WIFI issues. The staff assured me that the WIFI problem would be fixed soon.
A caveat for this review. We passed by while walking on The St Cuthbert’s Way, when we were hungry and we were wanting to eat anything, though eat quickly. We were disappointed in the service, with the slow speed of service and the quality of what we ate. So, while we were not the ‘average’ lunchtime clientele, at the outset we did state our needs clearly. Aware from others walking who also stopped to eat at Templehall that they shared our experience. As a constructive suggestion, try and put together a menu that is for hikers/pilgrims. Keep the offer simple and readily and quickly available. On the Camino De Santiago in Spain the Pilgrim Menu is very, very common and readily available along the route. Also suggest that a rubber stamp so as to validate the walker’s credential be made and is available. Would potentially give great advertising and promotion for your establishment.
Lovely restaurant. Friendly, attentive staff. Excellent varied menu catering well for vegetarians too. Relaxing atmosphere. Definitely recommend.
