I've been visiting this area of town since 2005 and just now found it. The atmosphere is nothing to write home about, but the food was fantastic and the service was pretty good. I ordered the sirloin steak and it was quite possibly the best I've had. The side salad is pretty well put together including egg, cheese and bacon. I will go back and bring friends.
We discovered this place here on Yelp while in the area for business. It's now AJ's but apparently has been here for more than 20 years. My hamburger was great! Cooked perfectly and all that comes with it including fries were good quality. My husband's tilapia was good (though not the best he's had). And, unlike most bars they offer a couple different makes of wine including Kendall Jackson! Our server Megan was fantastic. Overall, this was a great find and I recommend it.
A great Steak House hidden in a Bowling Alley. This little hide-away serves up some delicious steak and other fine grub. I have been coming here for years and the steaks are what I come for. The Rib Eyes are large, tender and tasty.
We 've been coming here since it was named JB 's. The place has changed hands a couple of times since then, and is currently called AJ 's. The menu has also changed a few times along with the pricing, but not dramatically. The overall quality of the steak and burgers has remained unchanged and I am convinced that this is the best $12 sirloin steak in town. Drink selection is a bit lacking, but the pricing is quite reasonable. Vegetarian options are limited, so we don 't take our daughter here, but do still love the joint.
OUCH! Original owners must 've packed up left, new staff was self-absorbed, unprofessional inept . . . Menu has lost all it 's charm it 's famous specials quality have morphed into dive-bar grunge. I rolled in here Monday night 8:40, after 5 hours of wrestling under my car to replace suspension parts . . . Expecting to go for my favorite, their Surf Turf dinner of shrimp filet, I was gut-punched to hear they not only DON 'T HAVE that special anymore, but in considering a Ribeye as replacement the barmaid told me the grill was already closed early, (bar-speak for: We want to get OUT of here early . Strike ONE TWO. Fried Food only . . . OK, where 's their Shrimp Basket dinner on the new menu? Sorry, no shrimp here, anymore . STRIKE THREE! Now settling for Fried FISH , I realized they don 't even have COD anymore, resorting to much cheaper Tilapia or Swai, which is garbage fish sourced from southeast Asia, farmed from highly contaminated POLLUTED rivers . . . Even a hamburger was not an option with the grill off, though my LAST Gary Burger eaten there had kept me awake sick all night with the Ammonia Burps , (resultant of restaurants using dirt-cheap pink-slime in place of real chop meat. The ammonia burps come from the pink slime being LITERALLY being soaked in an ammonia bath to lower bacterial colony counts in the meat plant . Strike FOUR. Ordered a DOUBLE Jack on the rocks, because I NEEDED it after my workout. I watched her pour my drink in a darkened corner . . the drink was weak, certainly NOT worth the TEN DOLLARS I was charged for 2 shots of Mr. John Daniels . . . When I complained the barmaid claimed she did an 8-count , but she must 've been counting REALLY fast, else the bourbon is being WATERED DOWN, there. THIS was a golden opportunity to TURN AROUND my entire experience: with just the tilt of a bottle, but instead she chose to maximize her alcohol profits (THEFT, anyone? . Strike FIVE. I left a tiny tip for her, she made her on that diluted double-pour , in my opinion. All the while I sipped my weak 10 dollar drink considered leaving, said barmaid was constantly whining complaining how another waitress was leaving early not doing her closing work to anyone who 'd hear her. Meanwhile the chef du jour spent more time out the back door chatting up his boyfriend THAN cooking orders in the kitchen. Strike SIX. My salad came and it looked like a bowl of green cereal, a good 6-7 ounces of Caesar dressing on top. Chef actually asked me if it looked OK as the barmaid tried to intercept him/it. He made some millennial excuse that the dressing poured so FAST from the bowl , restaurant-speak for: I just want to get OUT of here, I hate my job, I could CARE LESS about my clientele and I 'M TOO EFFING LAZY to use a spoon or ladle because THEN I 'll have to WASH THAT again . . . . Right? So I waited for another salad switched to a beer. It 's HARD to screw up a beer from the tap, so I 'll give them ONE STAR, for that. But it 's NOW Strike SEVEN, not a lucky seven, however. My entrée arrived, the fish was piping hot, no complaints there, other than it 's unknown origin heavy-metal counts . . . I went for the Nina-Rags fries, which they still had, they were topped nicely this time (for the up-charge , but the fries themselves were a bit undercooked, MORE evidence that said chef-boy-ardee just wanted to get out of there rushed my meal while he was chit-chatting out the back door. Strike EIGHT. I was up much of that night, not with ammonia burps, but ample indigestion. Took a pint of ice cream to put THAT fire out, 2a.m. Strike NINE?? Or Strike NINA from my future dining choices? All in all, Steak Nina USED TO BE a favorite very local destination for a GOOD MEAL. I wouldn 't hesitate to bring a date here, or family visiting, because the food quality USED TO BE so good!! But between the NOW limited menu, incompetent cooking, slouchy service POOR customer service, I think I 've darkened their barstools for the last time.
