The parking is great, and from the moment we walked in, we felt relaxed. All the staff are incredibly friendly and always willing to help. Sammie, the bar manager, is fantastic. Lorraine, the lady who serves breakfast, is a riot! The rooms are spacious and more than suitable for a two-night stay. The place runs smoothly but maintains a peaceful atmosphere. The grounds are beautiful, and overlooking the lake is an open-air lodge where the ceremony takes place, adorned with lights. Overall, it's a perfect place. Thank you!"
The dining room was beautifully decorated, but there were several aspects that disappointed us. Firstly, there was no designated place to put our coats besides the back of our chairs. No one asked us if we wanted any drinks, so we assumed we had to go to the bar to order. The beef dinner was greasy and not very hot, with watery gravy and sparse vegetables. Each course was served quickly without a break, making us feel rushed. The staff did not check in to see if our meal was satisfactory and did not offer any extra gravy. The desserts were poorly presented, with no sign of the rum cream that was supposed to accompany the chocolate cherry tart. The cheese board had a good selection but the cheese and gingerbread were dried out and tasteless. We were not offered coffee, which was a disappointment since it is usually included in the price at other venues. Overall, the experience was below average and we left feeling disappointed, especially since we had enjoyed a lovely meal there the previous Christmas. We reached out to the hotel with our feedback but have not received any response.
There were plenty of menu options and the prices were reasonable, but a meal at the bar would have been sufficient for our needs. We were unable to find a menu for bar meals, so we decided to dine in the restaurant. Unfortunately, there was only one other table occupied, making the space feel empty and lacking in atmosphere. The hotel cannot be blamed for the lack of diners. The bar, on the other hand, was quite busy, and we wished we had opted to eat there instead.
Hackness Grange is an old country house hotel which is well maintained ,tastefully furnished and set in a beautiful location with a lake in front of it The allocated room was also well maintained but very cold. The breakfasts are very good but no menu and quite basic. The food was excellently presented and of good quality. What is not to like? Misleading information about the access to the entire location. We booked a disability room and stressed the necessity of it on the phone to Jules who told us we would be well looked after. THERE IS ONLY ONE ROOM WITH DISABLED ACCESS IN THE HOTEL. As it was already occupied we were given a family room very nice if you are able bodied. I am in a wheelchair which says I am not. There were no facilities whatsoever in this room no grab handles or shower seat, no toilet bars only a non slip mat which is of no use if you cannot stand. My husband had a lot of things to do for me which is why a room with facilities is necessary and the sole reason we chose Hackness Grange. There is no access to the lake for me and steps everywhere. Not the stay we had anticipated! On arrival in the carpark we were greeted by a gentleman who informed us that the restaurant was closed because both chefs had phoned in sick!! He told us the nearest place for a meal was a pub 15 minutes drive away. We will not be revisiting this hotel again and I would suggest the staff inform prospective visitors of there only being one room with disability needs.
