Redcliffe Tavern - Scarborough

Called by for a quick lunch on Sunday but it was anything but quick. The steak sanga sounded promising but wasn't - a bit dry. Chips were nice though. The wife wasn't impressed with her burger but it was filling.

From the outside the Redcliffe Tavern doesn't look that special but once you step inside it is very light and airy with large windows looking out into the street. Nice atmosphere and decor inside. Large lunch menu available including a special seniors section. My parents had the seniors $12 fish and chips with salad and although I though a little small, they were very pleased with it. I had the lunch steak and was a bit tough but the flavours were delicious. Must keep in mind that you get what you pay for so don't expect a top notch steak for $16.95. Not complaining, just saying. My husband had satay fried rice off the usual menu for $18.95 and thoroughly enjoyed it. Worth a visit and would return.

We pre booked 10 for dinner on a Thursday. The venue was very well presented, friendly staff & not many customers all night. The food was 1-steak meal was cold & the mushroom sauce wasn't mushroom, 2- chicken schnitzel was over cooked, 3- seafood basket was cold & over crumbed

I enjoy soup any time of the day or year and the Redcliffe Tavern always has it on the menu. For $7 I get a lovely bowl of soup and 4 pieces of toast with butter. Always a good meal. I have had beef vegetable, pumpkin and sweet potato, creamed corn, and seafood chowder. All excellent.

We use to go for lunch on a regular basis , last year. We stopped going as the food was not good & the price of wine increased. Last Friday, we went again for lunch to try it again. The menu was still the same, boring & like other Redcliffe restaurants. The good thing is, the price of a good New Zealand white wine was a good price, only $20 not like other restaurants which they charge $40 to $52, We ordered fish & chips & a steak Sandwich, medium rear, ten minutes later I was told that they do not cook medium rear steak & only medium steak. I said ok as we were enjoying drinking the wine. , 15 minutes later we were served & the steak was cold & very tough, the fish was very greasy . I send my steak back & they cooked another one. It was a lot better. Next time we go there, , we will just have a bottle of wine.
