La Caleche - Saumur

This is a restaurant located just off the the main square (which is being dug up) from the river and better value. Whilst it is not located in the touristy square opposite the church, the area seems to be less touristy and frequented by locals. The welcome was good and we ate outside. A range of pizzas, pasta and tartiflette like dishes. We had tartiflette and the goats cheese version and our son had the pizza on the children’s menu. A bit slow to serve but the cheese dishes were well put together and delicious. Would recommend.

We came to Saumur for the AVV19. The whole town was buzzing and the atmosphere was alive. Looked this place up on Tripadvisor and decided to give it a whirl. Luckily we didn't need to reserve and the table we were given was on the terrace outside. The evening was warm and ideal for people watching while we ate. The food was great, all home cooked and delicious. The staff attentive and friendly. Will definitely come back next year for the AVV20 and back to this lovely, little, friendly restaurant.

Walked past one evening just as they were opening and we were greeted by lovely staff. We’ve spent 5 nights in Saumur and eaten here 3 times it really is that good. Both of my pizzas and my tagliatelle were great. I loved that on the first visit I asked for a wine menu in French and he responded by telling me “I am the wine menu” which made me chuckle. By 7.45pm they’ve been full every night so get here early or make a reservation. Well worth a visit

Great find, right in centre of town. Ate on the pavement, with great local atmosphere. Friendly staff, offering recommendations. Try the specialties fromageres! Also kid friendly.

My wife and I along with our baby son had a lovely dinner here in August 2018. The restaurant didn't have a baby high chair available, but then hardly any French restaurants seem to cater for babies, and luckily we came prepared with our travel high chair. The staff were so friendly, really pleasant and accommodating, which was a rarity in our two weeks in France. This was one of the only restaurants we came accross where the staff were friendly, corteous, smiled and actually spoke to us. The pizzas were fresh and delicious, the tartiflette pizza in particular was superb, and the meal was excellent value! Can thoroughly recommend this place if you are in Saumur.
