Sun Kwong Restaurant - Sault Ste. Marie

They have been open forever but I don't care for their food. There are other Chinese restaurants that are so much better.

So, you find yourself in downtown Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario and people can't agree on what they want for lunch. You want something a bit better than fast food, but you don't really want to spend a lot of money. Answer: Sun Kwon Restaurant. They have a menu filled with Chinese dishes, but you can also get a burger and poutine. How's that for an eclectic mix? The restaurant itself is a bit like a diner in its ambiance; not the kind of place where you dress up at all. We found it perfect for a lunch break, with relatively fast and friendly service. Want WiFi? Forget it but the food was good and you can always get back to being online later.

This is our go-to spot for Chinese food! Everything is freshly made to order, comes out hot, and consistently delicious. I always go back for the almond soo guy (the gravy is to die for! , Singapore noodles, shrimp with lobster sauce, and the homemade egg rolls. The decor is a bit dated, but if you are looking for great food and friendly service, this is the best place for it! The family that runs this is so nice, and the last few times we were in the owners came out to ask us how our meal was. Great hospitality and true staple in the Sault, given that it has been here for decades!

Not a serious business should be closed! The girl that takes orders is a total idiot. Placed an order because Hong Kong was done taking orders with the expectation of a wait, for delivery and 3.5 hours later I called when the food didn’t show up, at almost 9 pm and she lied in front of her managers saying I never ordered it and that she can’t call “a long distance number” and that I was supposed to call her back again after ten minutes. Total fabrication! Deceptive little girl. Where is it normal for someone to place an order then call again to order a second time! Manager didn’t take ownership of the problem either and gave the phone to the girl who took the order, who then proceeded to lie repeatedly in front of her manager. Really despicable. Totally made up to save her own skin. Instead of apologizing, told me “whatever” then hung up the phone. The little girl should be fired! Avoid this place, they’re trash! And to the owners: what are you doing with your lives? Take charge of your business now and fire her! She caused too much stress and lies and she’ll do it again. You don’t argue with a customer ever and you don’t accuse a customer of lying! Read the reviews of other customers and alarmed to read about all the food quality problems. Sad to have such a place still operating.
