We were in town for only one night, and wanted somewhere to meet family for dinner and drinks. We were greeted promptly upon arrival and escorted to our table. The entire bistro overlooks the hotels formal garden as well as the river. Daily features were explained and drink orders taken. Menu was condensed, but what we expected for a bistro and not a full restaurant. Three of our party ordered the steak and one ordered the burger. All food arrived as ordered and steaks were cooked as desired. The only issue was the bistro was lacking steak knives. However, this was not an issue as the steaks were of a quality that they were cut with our butter knives (very impressive).Prices were reasonable given our dinner ($130 for an appetizer, bottle of wine, two steak dinners and two desserts including tax)This is a outdoor bistro (there is no indoor seating) and it did get cool once the sun began to set. However, the facility did have multiple gas patio heaters that were moved about the patio to provide heat.
The breakfast menu is excellent and the staff are very friendly. There is nothing better than sitting in the garden with the sun shining and a view of the river.
When I am at Metric, behind the Bessborough overlooking the gardens area and then the river, I feel like I could be anywhere - The Boathouse in Central Park, looking over English Bay or watching the Danube. It is a good place to relax and have some delicious food. The menu is similar to the one upstairs, but there is something for everyone and the desserts are great.
This seasonal patio situated on the river side of the hotel is a great place to have a leisurely lunch on a beautiful summer day. There are different levels of seating arrangements, with couches, bistro sets, regular tables and bar height tables to choose from, all giving you a partial view of the river. There are umbrellas at some tables which is the only protection from the elements. Daily lunch specials are offered which are very reasonable, however all 3 of us opted for the Nicoise Salad which was very good. What we found amusing was that their wine inventory was apparently lacking! We attempted to order a bottle of Chardonnay but were told the last bottle was already open and there were no more. We then ordered the Meritage but when opened, the cork was bad. That was the last bottle of that one too! Our server was friendly and personable but a bit loud and seemingly out of place. It was a fun experience and we would go back again. This patio does not accept reservations.
