Sophie's Sarasota

This was my first time at Sophie's, which is in the 5th Ave business at Sax. It is well decorated and although small, it has a lot of seating. It has a well-equipped bar with wines and spirits. The menu is not too big, but the choices are diverse and interesting prepared. I had the Thai salad that was very good, but hard with the dressage that almost overwhelmed the salad. Other people on my table had French Onion Sliders, the small roast beef sandwiches served with a generous support of frits and their gigantic club sandwich also served with frits. The waitress was perfectly dressed, personalized and made an excellent job.

Had a wonderful lunch with Sophie today. We shared the charcuterie plate and had craft cocktails. Raspberry sludge! Yum! Everything was delicious! Love the decor. And the staff was attentive and funny! A great culinary experience! Definitely return to enjoy the outdoor terrace in cooler months.

It would be a complicated review. Mike, our server, was top notched, 5 star service. My wife ordered the grilled cheese. With the jam inside, one of the best grilled cheeses on their list and she was happy. I ordered the Bistro Steak and the Kale salad. Unfortunately, I wasn't as good as my wife. The steak should be sou vide to medium rare / medium, but came well done. The quality of the steak was good, so it was better than terrible. The cale was blown enough so my jaws were tired halfway through and let the plate eat halfway. It's regrettable. I was very excited about the food. there.

I previously had this place as 5 star. We have been there 5 times since Christmas and it was always 5 star from service to food to drinks. Today I went and had to lower the rating to 3 stars : . Previously the food was so good and today it was very strange. Things had an off taste and anything fried was VERY deep fried to the point of being DARK brown and dripping grease. Sadly I had the Fried soft crab , the truffle fries and an appetizer of hush puppies. Everything was not so great ,because the weird off taste and the grease. It's usually lightly browned and not dark and greasy. My companion also ordered his usual which was not fried anything but said it just tasted so so today. Service was still top notch as usual and the bar drinks were superb. UPDATE again. This place started out 5 stars. Then dropped to 3 stars because the food started being definitely not as good. Now , sorry to say I have to go even lower to 2 stars. We tried again and the service was so bad we just had to leave.
