Azul Profundo - Santa María Huatulco

This lovely restaurant on the beach at our condo, the Camino Real, was a perfect destination when we were tired of catching a cab into town to eat. We were seated right next to the surf, a lovely candle lit table, and the service was professional and attentive. The menu offers many variations on seafood and fresh fish as well as standard meats like chicken, steak and duck. We really enjoyed the bacon wrapped scampi in cheese and the red snapper and ahi tuna dishes are both fresh and tasty. The wine list is very reasonable and has a wide range of offerings from Mexico, Spain, France, and the US. The only downside is that it is only open on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. A reservation is a good idea.

Restaurants, like people can and do change. Azul Profundo was one of our favourite restaurants in Huatulco, until a disastrous experience some time ago, so we were somewhat hesitant to dine there a few days ago. The change from our previous experience was amazing. We were greeted on arrival as old friends and led to our favourite table in the corner closest to the ocean. The menu was extensive and the wine list reasonable. Fortunately, Juvenal, one of our favourite waiters, was there to look after us and even remembered that I liked my main course to be unsalted. (Sin sal como siempre? he asked).

A nice relaxed restaurant with wonderful staff. Unpretentious, but quality was there. We return every year for the terrific skirt steak. Only downside were packaged whipped potatoes woth the steaks.

It took 40 minutes to bring the entrees and 45 more for the food. The entree was ok, but that was it. The tuna was overcooked. The bread was from the breakfast buffet so it felt soggy. Bad. The place is very nice but they have to do something to place it like a good restaurant. And I came in low season. I dont want to imagine it full. Bad, bad, bad.

Azul Profundo will memorialize your visit to Huatulco. OCEAN FRONT seating. Romantic music plays in background as tranquil blue lit pool outlines a handful of private dining tables. Highest quality of ingredients and artistic presentations of dishes. Menu is excellent from top to bottom. Lobster and Champagne is to die for . Service is exceptional. Azul Profundo is a culinary experience you will be talking about with your friends. If I could choose only one place...Azul Profundo for me!!!
