Tasca La Muralla

This bar may look a bit scruffy from the outside but don’t let that put you off. The food was excellent, the beer cold and refreshing and the service was friendly. If you want authentic tapas this is the place. If you want “all day breakfast” and big screen football then it’s not.

This was a great find, staff were attentive and friendly . They took time to explain where the tinto wine was sourced locally which incidentally was really good. We had tapas, prawns, spicy potatoes, tuna salad, Spanish omelette all tasty and lovely ambience overall.

I stumbled across this place on my first night as it was close to my hotel! A few things were off the tapas menu but I went for it anyway and very nice it was dining alfresco! They had a dark beer which pleased me and all served very nicely. Coffees and Brandies to finish noice guy that seems to own it Would reommend!

Walking the streets of downtown Puerto de la Cruz is a very pleasurable Tenerife holiday experience. For a winter break from the higher latitudes of the United Kingdom you can 't really go wrong. And if, towards lunchtime or any time for that matter, you 're searching for a meal or snack, those streets are full of places to take a table and chair where you 'll be able to eat and drink as the mood takes you. On the main promenade you 'll likely find the larger restaurants, the hotel and chain establishments that serve you well. Take a street or two back from sights of the sea and it can get a little more interesting, a little more different if you will. Amongst the familiar sports 'café bars ' to be found so obvious with canopied outside seating facing large television screens showing the latest Premier League football games you 'll come across the unique and the unusual in Puerto, places that are all the better for being 'unusual ' or 'unique '. And that 's where Tasca la Muralla down Calle La Hoya comes in. You can 't miss it. Just past the Ale Hop shop on the sea front promenade of Calle de San Telmo walking towards the harbour area, drop down the steps to the lower level. Take an immediate left at the bottom of the steps up the side street which leads, in a few strides, to Calle La Hoya. There, across the street at the junction with Calle La Hoya is Tasca la Muralla. Distinctive is the word. Look closely at the tables and chairs set outside the front of the dark reddish brown walled café. You 'll spot that the length of their legs have been 'adjusted ' to counter the effect of the sloping street on which they 're placed so that the seats and tables they support remain level. Inside the décor is just as unusual, from ceiling to floor. I 'll not attempt to describe it let the photographs do the work. However it is full of an ambience that makes you linger over your order of wine, beer and tapas. And that 's what we did partake of wine, beer and tapas at lunchtime. The menu was sufficiently enticing for more than just one visit during our weeks break in Puerto. It 's a personal service you get from the (I think) husband and wife team who work hard to make the café work. I 'm pleased we found Tasca la Murella. We could have walked by those odd legged tables and chairs but didn 't. If you come across them, do step inside like we did. It will add to the experience of any holiday in Tenerife.

Lovely little bar, nice tapas, great beer, genuine Spanish run family bar, well worth a try. We loved the place very cheap and very friendly.
