We were a party of 10 staying in Santa Croce and lucky enough to have Rosacambra as our nearest restaurant. What a great place, they serve two fixed price menus either e19 or e22. This includes six starters which are shared, two mains (a pasta course and a meat course) , desert, wine and water. It is “slow cooked food” which means everything is locally sourced and in season. Food is outstanding, it’s very easy to fill up on the starters which range from Arancini, sweet and sour aubergines to Peperonata. There is as much red wine as you can drink, it’s chilled but very drinkable. It seems to be run by a family with enthusiasm and flair. One of our part didn’t eat cheese so they served non cheese options for him as well as all their normal food. They made it a fun evening out. It must be good because we went twice in a week and the menu was different both times!
I had two visit in this place across few months, the first one just to try it and the second one because someone else decision. In both case I had the same impression. The service is pretty good and prices are not high but conversely there's not much of impressive in this place. the large part of the meal (it's on fixed menù by the way, you cannot decide much) is something you could find everywhere in Italy and I didn't find the Sicily taste in it. Just to summarise if the place was in some less relevant area it would be ok, if you need just a place to eat it is ok but it doesn't deserve few miles of move.
We wandered into Rosacambra early one evening after being out exploring the area all day. We know that Italians eat dinner later but it was showing as open and we were hungry. Although they were between services, as soon as the family of owners heard we were hungry they ushered us to a table next to a wood burning stove (so cozy) and started bringing us the most amazing food that we had anywhere in Italy. I cannot even list all the dishes they brought us and everything was excellent. They really made us feel like part of the family.
A most amazing family owned and operated restaurant serving traditional Sicilian plates. Food is excellent and selection varied. Emphasis is on local and time honored recipes. Menu is price fixed (23 Euros) with 6 appetizers, 2 pastas and 2 main courses dessert and wine. The pasta sauces are incredible. Waiters take pride in explaining each dish and sharing stories. A magical place, can’t wait to return!!!
