Good location on an area on the beach that is also good for swimming. this place attracts both locals and tourists which makes it feel a bit more authentic than some other cafes in this town that are largely populated by the gringo population. cheap beer, friendly service, both beach and restaurant seating. you can order anything from simple tacos and nachos for a few dollars a plate, to whole fried fish, burgers and/or coconut shrimp. great chill vibe. mixed drinks are hit and miss but the ambience makes up for that.
My wife and I have been here two days in a row. The fish tacos and home made salsa are both excellent and there is a very friendly staff, some of whom speak English. My wife tried their special Melaque Beach Cocktail and wasn't disappointed. Plus you can't beat the view!
We tried Las Palmas on December 26 one of the busiest days of the year on the beach in Melaque. The beach was indeed hopping with people and beach umbrellas. I wanted to eat a vegetarian meal so requested vegetarian fajitas not on the menu but they did a fine job, and for only 60 pesos I enjjoyed nicely sauteed veggies with some cheese melted in and a topping a sliced avocado served with tortillas. My wife liked her very generous nicely cooked coconut shrimp. Server Christine was very pleasant and spoke some english. One can rent a beach umbrella and table and chairs from Las Palmas for 150 pesos, about $10CDN. Lovely spot on the beach. Lunch with our two entrees and 4 bottles of Sol was a surprisingly low 270 pesos...less than $20CDN! Great!
We've eaten her twice this week after an afternoon on on the beach, and it was very nice both times. We had the same attentive waiter each time, and everything arrived as ordered after a reasonably short wait The menu has a good selection of Mexican and seafood, including hamburgers for children, and a few other things. The restaurant is elevated above the beach, so it has a really nice view of beautiful Bahia de Barra de Navidad. There is a thatched roof above, and the cool afternoon breezes are wonderful. Our total cost for four, before tip, was just under 400 pesos.
