Small portion more expensive. Less fish. nothing subtle or civiche about it. Unless you order it for your desert perhaps. The pita triangles used to be homemade now they are from costco. it is unfortunate to see a restaurant that is riding on its past owners culinary love and dedication for quality, turn mediocre at best Ambiance is still charming. Even though they doubled the number of tables. Consider yourself warned with the High trip advisor rating based off it 's eell deserved old reputación.
I am always suspect when I see many reviews with 5 stars, but several that are one star. I wonder what happened or are the reviews from competitors trying to hurt the restaurant. A couple of the one star reviews make the restaurant sound really bad, but then there are 900 good reviews! I visited San Miguel Jan 29-Feb 3, 2023, 4 nights. I tried La Parada Restaurant the first night of my stay. I liked it so much that I ate dinner there for 3 of the 4 nights. I didn't find the restaurant noisy as I read in one review--that reviewer should come to New York City to learn what noisy is. I didn't try chicken livers so I can't comment on them, but I had 3 different entrees and all were good. If I have a friend going to San Miguel I would definitely tell them to go to La Parada.
We ate at La Parada on a number of occasions in 2015. We kept coming back because of the ambiance, the food and the service. We knew before this visit that the restaurant had changed hands recently but we wanted to try the restaurant again. We ordered pico sours but when they came, we had no chance to enjoy them before our ceviches arrived. The fish was not tender and they were overpowered by very strong flavouring. My wife ordered causa that was nicely presented but over spiced with chilies. I had chicken livers because I had enjoyed them here in the past. The livers were tender but covered with chili paste which was all I could taste. We wish the new owners well but they really need to up their game. Very disappointing.
La Parada was jammed with diners and we were the third party in line for reservations at 7:30. The staff seem harried and even a bit abrupt with patrons. But once we got seated things went back to being typically Mexican. The service was excellent. And before I get to the food, let me say that the interior of this cozy restaurant is absolutely lovely. We started with a salad that featured, corn, peas, tomatoes, sun-dried tomatoes, olives, fava beans, and cheese in a pesto dressing. It was delightful. I would go back just to get this gem of a salad. My entrée came with an intriguing name that roughly translated to Aphrodisiac Rice. The rice was cooked in a red chili sauce and served with shrimp, octopus, and scallops. It was absolutely delicious. My wife also had a rice dish, which I am told is typical of Peruvian cuisine. Hers came with green rice, and pieces of chicken, cooked in beer, with a creole sauce. She loved it. This meal came at a more than reasonable price, which translates to great value. We would definitely recommend this restaurant. It is superb.
Never disappoints, La Parada is a go-to every SMA vacation. The dining area has a leafy atrium feel with filtered soft lighting. Our service was prompt and attentive. The menu has a variety of specialties including the our favorite, the sea bass. The beer/wine selection is good. If time is short, sneak in a lunch visit, you won't be disappointed.
