Icicles - San Mateo

The ice cream at this downtown San Mateo restaurant is delicious! It is located near many other good restaurants and a movie theater. The location is a bit small and can get very hot, even when it's cold outside. There is a bench outside the restaurant but otherwise, it's mostly takeout. It can get busy, but it's worth the wait. My favorite is the Cereal Killer with Captain Crunch cereal (also recommend the Nutella and Chill). The ice cream and toppings are all delicious, especially the roasted marshmallow!

Sometimes a unique take on an old classic is what you need to keep the kids on their toes and make it a more memorable outing. Anywhere that offers a pineapple flavor gets extra marks.

A lot of people compare this place to cold stone but I'm sorry this place is better and so are its toppings. This place makes the ice cream right in front of you, so, you get a show along with ice cream. Cold stone already has the ice cream made and maybe they mix in toppings. Icicles, they make the ice cream right in front of you. Then if you ask for it they even put on a fire show with toasted marshmallows. That's a lot of words for ice cream but I keep hearing how coldstone is just as good but nah

I have to mention that the ice cream at this restaurant is absolutely amazing. It is incredibly creamy and smooth, and the flavors perfectly showcase the quality of the ingredients. One of my favorites is the vanilla custard with coconut, bananas, and chocolate drizzle - it is truly heavenly. However, I have to give this place 2 stars because it took us 45 minutes to receive our ice cream. Despite the popularity of the restaurant and the fact that we visited on a hot summer evening after dinner, it would have been helpful if they had informed us of the wait time or allowed us to go elsewhere and return later. I had two toddlers with me who had to stand in line without a chair for the entire wait, and we were close to giving up. My advice to the restaurant would be to communicate with your customers and manage their expectations accordingly.

The staff member working at the front was excellent! She was extremely friendly and patient with customers, and the ice cream was delicious. I loved that they offered unlimited toppings.
