Noodles Pho Me has closed! This is a tragedy. It was one of the best Asian places in the East Bay. A friend told me they lost their lease, I hope they find a new place soon...and not far away!
Their portions are usually extremely generous. They also have a good menu with options that don't overwhelm anyone. I decided to do takeout again and when I received my order it was so much less than I expected. There was not a lot of chicken but instead an absurd amount of noodles in my Khao Poon. I also got the chicken satay and it wasn't good, the turmeric was poorly dispersed and had a couple of burnt edges. Usually this doesn't happen.
My refuge in times of need. More than 4 years and I continue returning to Noodles Pho Me because it is the complete package. Intense and wonderful dishes, from aroma to last bite. A friendly, accepting and inviting atmosphere cultured by the owners and every member of the staff. An expanding menu that keeps my entire family ordering enough for 3 full meals each because we experience Sophie 's Choice upon every visit. To have a single favorite dish here is impossible. We still drag visiting relatives and friends to this hidden gem at every opportunity. Their treatment of each individual ingredient is so respectful and reverent that you can close your eyes during each bite and call forward a specific ingredient and experience a first chair solo amongst the backing of the London Philharmonic that each other ingredient is now playing. I dream of Noodles Pho Me. I crave it fortnightly. I crave it daily, if I am being honest. Our highlights always seem to cover one or more of their amazing soups, the Nam Khao, their transcendent take on Banh Mi, the perfectly executed Sai Gok, or one of their seasonal specials. Let me back up a bit... because the Nam Khao changed me. Prior to it, I couldn 't enjoy tripe. This preparation is so thinly sliced and perfectly cooked that I didn 't even notice it. I 'd normally notice and reject tripe from no less than a stone 's throw away. Somehow the contrast of textures and perfect preparation in Nam Khao turns me into an evangelical tripe supporter. I order this on every visit and have converted staunchly anti-tripe relatives and friends to full worshipers of Noodles Pho Me tripe enthusiasts. If Noodles Pho Me needed a kidney to survive, I 'd donate. Thankfully they appear to have made it through this pandemic and the only thing they need is my appetite and vociferous support and recommendations to others.
We stumbled upon Noodles Pho Me while searching desperately for lunch after flying in from Fort Lauderdale. We parked on the street, walked up, and rang the doorbell to order. After noticing that offered outdoor dining we walked around the side and sat in a little courtyard lined with small citrus trees. My wife ordered Drunken Noodles and I had a large Pho. The cheerful server brought the food out in a few minutes and our prayers for nourishment were answered. The Pho had a delicious broth, and plenty of thin-sliced beef, halved meatballs, noodles, sprouts and onions. The Drunken Noodles contained thin-sliced chicken breast, thin-sliced broccoli, onions and peppers, and noodles in a light, delicious sauce. The servings were quite generous, and we had some Drunken Noodles left over for later. One thing to know if paying by CC is to bring cash for a tip, as adding it to the bill is not an option here. The owner came out to check on us during the meal, concerned about my barbaric chopsticks and spoon Pho consumption technique. Highly recommended: delicious, charming and a great value.
