I discovered Paladar Vegetariano on Happy Cow and it immediately shortened my interest. A home cooked vegan meal in not so vegan friendly Puerto Rico! I called the number and spoke directly to the owner/Koch Geronimo. He was very friendly, and so we chose a day (the last night of our stay) for the meal, and he said he would call me when we arrive in San Juan to discuss the meal. As promised, Geronimo called and we discussed our food preferences and possible allergies. He told us what was in the season, and we chose a four course meal (soup, salad, duck and dessert). It was also very fast to offer not tourist destinations and activities all over the island that was fantastic. Well, at the meal we arrived in a beautiful house in a gated community in the Ocean Park neighborhood and were greeted by Geronimo and his waiter/friend Joe. They put us on the covered veranda and after a short conversation and some very refreshing Aqua-Fresko (with watermelon and star fruit), our soup came. It was a kind of roasted squash and garlic pure, and was absolutely delicious. One of the most beautiful soups I've had for years. Next, an incredibly tasty salad of freshly picked water crepe (including salad), carrots, pumpkin seeds and amazing coconut vinaigrette... again plate licked clean. Then the duck came a vegan turn on the classic Puerto Rican dish Mofongo: mashed and fried green plantains. Geronimo prepared this top doll with sautéed summer squash, carrots and sorted other vegetables and herbs, and it was so good. On the phone we said we liked things spicy, and he said that Puerto Rican food is generally not spicy, but he would throw it up a bit. And he did. And it was amazing. For Dessert, Geronimo presented us with a kind of avocado/Mango/Banan sorbet about a nut-crumb situation. Not sure how to describe it exactly, but it was the perfect end to an incredible meal. To summarize everything was amazing. The dishes were very well designed and so fresh. Geromino actually showed us the freshly pulled by dirty carrots that he would use in our meal (that he was chosen in his friend's farm earlier this day). HIGHLY recommended for a type of VEGETARIAN meal in San Juan!

My man and I found paladar vegetariano on happycow, when we were looking for places to go on our slum weeks. I am vegan and wanted to have a special night with my new husband. that was by far the best we ever had and the most romantic date we were ever. before I arrived in puerto rico, I told chef geronimo how many courses we wanted and what kind of food we wanted. we told the chef that it was our slur Weeks and he hired the violin to play while we ate for free! each cure was better than the last one and we have very much in love. if they are in puerto rico, they must see geronimo!
