We went on a Wednesday evening and there was a line but the wait wasn’t too long about 30 minutes. It’s also not the kind of place where people sit there for the whole evening, so the wait is normally not too crazy. There’s a variety of ramen to choose from, and includes vegetarian or vegan options My vegetarian friend got the Vegan Tantanmen and she loved it. I got the Toripaitan Ramen and it was really good too??Ramen was steaming hot? when it came, and the soup was really rich and creamy. The fried burdock root also added an interesting texture to the bowl. You order with a QR code on at the table, very fast and efficient and won’t need to worry about splitting the bill.If you sit at the table near the door, be careful to not bump into the big red lantern, my friend hit her heard on that and I don’t want to know how much it hurt?Vegetarian options: VGKO and Vegan Tantanmen
There was a lot of hype surrounding the food at Mensho Tokyo. It's located in Tenderloin in an area around a lot of dumpsters and homeless people, and with the long wait times expect to be standing outside for a while. The ramen was honestly disappointing. With the hype I was expecting something extraordinary but I felt like they tried to be almost too experimental in their ramen to the point where the dish didn't really taste cohesive anymore. I had the Blaze ramen and it tasted simultaneously bland but also overwhelming. I didn't enjoy the addition carrots nor did I like how much fried garlic was on top. I DID like the eggs in the ramen though, but that was honestly the only part of the ramen I liked. I felt like it lacked general depth of flavor but it was overly rich and oily.I tried the enoki chips as an appetizer and those were enjoyable, especially with the lemon on the side. It reminded me of calamari.Overall, I probably wouldn't return, but If I had to, I would try a different dish because maybe the Blaze ramen wasn't the best choice for my personal tastes.
High quality ramen noodle.Small seating space inside the restaurant so the waiting can be quite long, but allows you to pre-order so that the dishes will be ready very quickly.Best place for those who are craving for thick and/or creamy soup-type ramen.
Amazing vegetarian options and definitely one my favourites in SF. The vegan tantanmen and vegan garlic knock out were so so good. V.G.K.O as it's written on the menu is spicier with a strong garlic taste, and has something crispy on top (not sure what it is) that is amazing. The vegan tantanmen is amazing and was my favourite, and you can add the egg to it. One ramen is good for one person. I would recommend getting in line 20-40 mins ahead of when they open. I reached 20 mins before opening and was the last person to get in the first set of people. The line is long after that and though things move quickly, the space is quite limited.
Delicious food! The chicken karaage, Tori Paitan (with added mensho spicy sauce) and spicy enoki chips were particularly good. The only drawback is the wait time you’ll need to wait outside for at least 30 minutes due to the limiting seating inside.
