I had the shrimps and Scallop Fucini and my wife had one of their vegetarian dishes. Both were perfectly prepared and delicious. This is a great romantic restaurant to take your girl!
Had heard great things about this restaurant. Had a reservation through Open Table, but when we came to the restaurant, they did not have the reservation. Since I wrote this review for Open Table, of course I had a reservation. Not sure why it wasn't transferred to the restaurant. The host gave us a little hard time, but they had a table available for us, so they sat us. However, the table was on the back closed terrace, which was not terrible warm. I commented about the cool temperature, but the host only said that the room would finally warm up....it did, but it was a little later. Not the friendly answer of the host. The metal chairs were not the most comfortable. We sat approx. 15 minutes there before we had to fly someone to notice to bring us water and menus. After that the service improved, but the waitress brought my friend a third glass of wine, when my friend had clearly rejected a third glass of wine. She drank it, but she didn't really want it and we were charged for it. The food was good. Not sure I would go back to dinning, but I could sit in the posh dining room with the padded seats and chairs.
I have booked a large group on Open Table and received both a confirmation and a memory. Imagine my surprise when I only showed up with a job candidate for an interview dinner to find there was no table for us. Eventually it worked. The food is good and this is a great place, but do not book through Open Table, as they do not seem to have turned off their open table account your booking will not be done.
It's been a while since my husband denied me here, but that's just because we don't get to Point Loma very often. I have reserved for Restaurant Week about 2 weeks in advance because we had plans to visit a game in downtown. When I entered the restaurant, I told the 3 people on the front that we had a reservation of 5:45. Well, we stood there for 3 5 minutes, while 3 young men tried to find out where to sit. The comic is that there were many empty tables. I could say that my husband was annoyed/unfailed because he had to move several steps away from the situation. One highlight was the Lemon Drop Martini. It had to be the best Lemon Drop I ever had. The restaurant Week menu had a good choice, with the exception of desserts. My chicken pikatta, on which I had great hopes, was extremely salty. There were many capers I like that the beautified veggies were delicious, but you need to keep on the salt when caper is part of the dish because caper themselves are salty. My husband enjoyed his La Regina dish seafood stew in a light tomato broth. Service was a bit slow sporadic, even if the restaurant was not busy. Altogether Old Venice is a good restaurant, but I like her sister restaurant Alexander's on 30. much better.
I made the reservation for a party of two for Thursday night during restaurant week at 6:45. We arrived one hour early because we wanted to have a drink in the bar before being seated. I checked in one hour prior and asked if it would be possible to sit in the covered patio. The hostess said she already had us selected for the covered patio dining. Happy, we headed to the bar. We closed out our bar tab and checked back in to the hostess stand. The hostess led us past the indoor patio that we were told we would be seated in, and directly to the outside patio. We were the only people out there. We were told it would be nice because the heater was on. Despite the niceness of the heater sitting outside on the UNCOVERED patio, we were told we had a table in the section with the covered patio. Being outside was not so bad, but we definitely did not get the service those inside did. Our server offered us bread, we watched her bring bread to her covered patio tables, yet, she was unable to get outside to us to deliver our bread. So, our bread came AFTER our appetizers. Our drinks were delivered later because of our location, our waters were not filled because of our location. Then, they sat a large table outside, and another table. Basically, the food was good as usual, but we were not given the service we would have had if our table was conveniently located inside, on the covered patio, like I was told we would get. I was a server for 13 years, so I understand the inconvenience of tables that are far away, separated by a door, when all of your other tables are inside. I also understand that Restaurant Week does not allow servers to give the type of attentive service that they usually would give. But, server/busser 101 is don 't ask someone if you can take their plate while they are still eating. I shouldn 't be asked Can I take your plate , just because I put my fork down. I will go again, but definitely not during Restaurant Week.
