Restaurant was empty, but they didn't let us sit where we wanted. Also they could not check us in opentable because “the tablet was not there.” But Sushi was good enough.

After hearing positive reviews about this restaurant, we decided to give it a try and invited some friends to join us for a casual dinner for four. Two of our group do not eat raw fish, so we ordered the Aji Fly bento and Seabass bento for them. They were both very pleased with their choices. The other two of us ordered the sashimi combo, which was so delicious that we ordered another one to take home. We also tried three different rolls, all of which were fantastic. The fish was incredibly fresh and everything we tried tasted exceptional. We also appreciated the beautiful and classy way the food was presented. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Have you ever passed by a place so often that you kind of forget about them? More than a little nonsensical to say, but pretty true for me and SushiRaw. It 's nothing against them; they just happened to blur into the background as I would pass by every day on my way to my old job. As we aimlessly drove around in search of a late dinner though? They sure did stand out, especially since we had a hankering for some sushi! Stepping inside, the first thing that struck me was how much nicer this location was compared to their old spot in San Bruno. Granted, it was a low bar to clear the other one still reminded me of the Taco Bell that used to be there , but I like the dark decor and tinted windows. More importantly though, the menu here looks a whole lot better. Not only does it cover a wider range sushi, sashimi, bento boxes, starters, udon, etc. , but it seems like there are more choices than I remember the other location have, especially with their rolls. FUJI MOUNTAIN ROLL - Lobster Salad, Avocado, Mango Baked with Crab Meat, Scallop Spicy Sauce, and Tobiko...$16.95. It may not have added to the dish, but it was pretty cool to see them set the dish on fire. In any case, this was pretty solid. Despite not being able to taste the mango, I liked the mix of flavors from the lobster salad, avocado, and crab meat. ROMEO JULIET ROLL - Salmon and Avocado topped with Fresh Scallops, Tobiko, and Mayo and wrapped with a Soy Paper Wrap...$13.95; HOTATEGAI Scallop Nigiri...$6.95. I was looking for a roll that was relatively light and the Romeo Juliet did the trick! Both the scallops and salmon were really fresh and there wasn 't a ton of sauce. As for the Hotategai, I didn 't plan on more scallops, but I 'm glad I did. Not only was the cut pretty large, but it was really tasty! HAMACHI NIGIRI...$6.25; ROMEO JULIET ROLL...$13.95. Having already tried their hotate and sake sashimi/nigiri, I only had the hamachi left to try. All in all...not bad. The cut was both generous and fresh, but this wasn 't the most flavorful one I 've had. As for the Romeo Juliet roll, it was just about as good as the first time around. SESAME CHICKEN - Deep Fried Chicken Japanese Style with Spicy Sauce...$6.50. Honestly, this just wasn 't very good. Not only did every piece have more batter than chicken, but they weren 't all that flavorful either. Had I known the sesame was just a ton of seeds dumped into the aioli, I wouldn 't have bothered with this. SAKE SASHIMI...$11.95 or $6 if you order $25 or more. While they may not have been the prettiest of slices a little uneven and a couple looked a little torn , this certainly tasted the part! As with the scallops and the hamachi, the salmon was both fresh and tasty. Considering all of the restaurants that have passed through this space in the years since the old ZIm 's closed, it 's great how SushiRaw has found continued success over the years. Whether it 's day or not, it seems like there are always at least a handful of folks grabbing a bite here whenever I pass by. What 's more, it seems like they do a steady amount of to go business as well, as I saw a ton of people stop in to pick up orders. All in all, despite some of the things I tried not being amazing, SushiRaw isn 't too shabby. The food is decent, prices are fair, service is fine, parking isn 't hard, seating isn 't tough, and they 're one of the few Japanese joints around that 's open late until midnight . It may not be the type of place you make a point of going to, but they sure are handy to have around!
