It was some of our first times here, and quite a few people from work and my friends have been hyping this restaurant up. The atmosphere and service were great and top notch, and have no complaints there. We ordered a bottle of white wine $28), blue fin toro toast $20), a few other small dishes/appetizers that I thought were fair), Ricotta Dumplings $34) and the Black Cod $39). I thought the toro toast and the ricotta dumplings were the must have. The blue fin toro toast was soft, fluffy, and paired well with the included sauce. The ricotta dumplings were juicy, sublime, and also paired very well with its sauce. I didn't eat the black code, but the others in my party loved it, so probably also something to try next time. Under normal circumstance, I would've given Rich Table a 4/5 given the atmosphere, service, and that some of the dishes were great. However, when dining out in SF the past year, I've been accustomed to all items being properly priced and itemized, so we paid automatically. It wasn't until after our party was looking to split the check that we found the white wine cost $112. I'm 100% sure this wasn't a mistake in communicating the order since I pointed out the line item for this wine on the menu from one of my pics) and the menu price for this line that was not a glass) showed $28, so either the order was not logged correctly or its total cost is not as clear as the menu indicates While I wouldn't normally mind the full cost of the bottle if this was made aware or confirmed while we were ordering, this was something others in my group were not happy with when they saw the final total. Either way, this was a big disappointment on our experience at Rich Table, hence the -2 stars. I don't doubt that Rich Table is a great experience for others, but for us, this dinner left us with a negative experience here.
3rd time coming here and as always, was absolutely amazingly delicious Porcini doughnuts [5/5]: a classic repeat was super excited for these soft, pillowy balls of cheesy goodness Geoduck sashimi [5/5]: super fresh and crunchy, loved the cured ginger (i think that's what it was that came with the slices O toro tataki [5/5]: WOWz i loved this and loved it way more than the tuna toast (although that was good too . The fish melts in your mouth, broth is hearty and umami. The fried sourdough soaks in all the flavor and its an absolute explosion in your mouth. 10/10 must get! Tuna toast [4.5/5]: loved this one as it came out first but i think the tataki has it beat. Milk bread was soft on the inside crunchy on the outside, loved the chili oil drizzled on top, also melts in your mouth. Matsutake chow mein [3/5]: ok not my favorite dish from here, prob the one i liked the least across my three visits. Did not like the flavor profile, was a little too funky for me, and superrrr salty. Duck confit [4/5]: duck is super succulent, the quince pairs wonderfully with its tartness. The cornbread however was amazing. I usually don't like corn bread as its dry and crumbly (bleh but this one was super moist, full of flavor, and topped off with some quince sauce/pureee just made it *chefs kiss* Grape ice [5/5]: finished off with a light refreshing dessert great if you're stuffed but still got a sweet tooth :
Our culinary highlight of San Francisco trip. Great service and food. Eggplant and ribeye were my favorites of the meal. Would go back in a heartbeat Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner
On the hip/casual side definitely more casual trendy than you'd expect from a former Michelin star holder. Tried Chef's picks their fixed menu and food was pretty good, not consistently amazing though. Our entrees were a bit too much spaced out which they acknowledged made up for.
Very good! We ordered the tasting menu for 2, plus bread to start. The small bites were the highlight of the meal for me; from oysters to savory porcini donuts to a sardine chips and more, each was a unique and delicious experience. The service was attentive and just excellent throughout. Other standout dishes were their sourdough (made using Douglas fir needles) and burrata. The salmon was the lowlight, as the flavor and texture were too uniform for me (the soft skin on the salmon and sauce it was all in contributed to this). The hanger steak was perfectly cooked and delicious, but personally I'd like to taste the beef a bit more past the seasoning/marinade. The desserts were nice, especially the shaved ice and sorbet. I loved that they sell loaves of their bread for take home. The dining room was a lovely rustic space. No AC, but we were there on one of the hottest days of the year normally this wouldn't matter at all in SF.
