Panta Rei - San Andreas

I fell in love with this restaurant. Moving to San Francisco from New Zealand for work at the age of 23, I was a shy individual who had never dined alone, let alone lived by myself in a big city without knowing anyone locally. Arriving at noon, I checked into my AirBnB and decided to make this new city feel like home by having dinner at Panta Rei. As I approached the restaurant, I was immediately drawn to its prime corner location and the clever architecture that maximized the natural sunlight throughout the day. The Maître D' caught my eye and greeted me with a smile, offering to share his love for the food at Panta Rei. He spoke mostly in Italian, but kindly translated his recommendations into English for me. His passion and authenticity not only convinced me to dine alone, but also guided my entire meal selection. The friendly service staff made me feel welcomed, and I never felt lonely eating by myself. My absolute favorite dish was, and still is, the Tiramisu. I highly recommend not skipping this dessert during your visit, as it truly enhances the experience. Your visit to Panta Rei will be worth it, I promise.

The worst place to go to North Beach. I can only think the good reviews are from tourists who are unfamiliar with the better NB restaurants or people who have no idea how good Italian cuisine tastes. I was years ago when I lived in NB and was underwhelmed. Of course, I was sucked in this time by the 1,000pt reservation and should have known it better. You have this offer to get people into the door bc the food is simply not good. I had the salmon, my husband had the pizza. Holy Smolina. Not the kind of pizza you expect in NB. My salmon was overcooked and while it had barbecue signs, I don't think it was grilled. I don't even want to think about it. Dinner for 2 was $85 after tip, which was a complete waste of money. We will not return.

Horrible service. Took forever to waitress to take order. Food finally arrived 40 min later and cold. Then had to remind 2x to get the check which took forever also.

We were able to make a reservation over the weekend and were thrilled to be seated outside as requested! The atmosphere was wonderful, and the beautiful weather added to our enjoyment. The food was delicious, the portion sizes were generous, and I would definitely return. We came to meet a few friends (a total of 4 of us) and the noise level was perfect.
