My family planned a Birthday Day dinner, so they directed me to meet them on S. Alamo hadn't been here in years but I had heard that City Leaders and young investors were giving this area of San Antonio an electric vibe that would rival Keep Austin Weird . Traffic was much deeper than 6th street and if I can say clean and free of tents and urinating granola's. I see it in the distance flaming red lights with a fire path, what? brought me way back to a place I live In I thought privately in my own head! But it does exist! On a T in Old Town what the hipsters call South Town the town's people have named King William no slapping here please sits a place out of the past, and far away. A far away place that I put together in my mind and then it came true. Hot Joy is a Polynesian meets Tokyo meets South Texas meets Quentin Tarantino. Right smack at the end of Beauregard it T's into S. Alamo follow the Tiki Torches into a Quentin Tarantino dream. The smell of Asian spices fill the air as you walk into a Japanese Buddhist medieval temple like entrance meets Hollywood. Every turn in this place is like another extension of everything I've always wanted in 1 place but never found. Red lightning, Asian bar with a flare of Star Wars like, cool hipsters surround the bar, Japanese Pagoda Umbrellas hanging from the ceiling then bang your in a Tiki Bar with bamboo seating and Hawaiian Tiki Gods adorn the walls mixed with Japanese wallpaper it's just crazy fun coming to life! Open spaces with Jakarta like private eating rooms each with their own Vibe, we got the God of Asia, Bruce Lee. K yes I'm in I love the front of house everything about it says f yes give it to me! NOW! Had Wings I'm told bye a good source that the chef uses vodka to extract juiciness and give these babies a crisp without drying them to the bone. They were sweet with a fish sauce I love on everything dang you have to eat these! Had pineapple rice with spam! Wow very Polynesian and much respect to the quality as it was just sticky right and sweet spice mix. Warm Dan Dan noodles so creamy sweet and spice, nice touch with the crispy onions to add crunch to the creamy goodness. Lettuce Wraps amazing had a chorizo spice to the meat and again that little onion crispy touch and sweet pickled onions to add to the fresh crispy lettuce. I have to say this is way good not Austin crazy that fills most places, it's my crazy and I'm coming here until I try everything! Big Bow and Haka dance to the brilliant mind and Chef that have brought my dream true to South Town aka King Williams.
Me thee friend decided to spend our 2nd annual day here, it was amazing from the go. we had two amazing waiters who made very knowledgeable great recommendations. even tried to get us the best from our night. we had the two fried wings that were amazing. I had the spam fried rice he had. I forgot the name lol. eating was all good, the drinks were strong? definitely recommend
I wanted to try this place for the longest and the man I miss! great atmosphere! great service and nice fun visit! I recommend definitiw this place to go with the girls or a date night! Once they get in, there is a host stand to wait to take place. there were open bar seats where I had a drink and waited until I sat at a table where I also got a great service and delicious food! more helpful in drinks choices and positive vibes! from what I hear often change to try something new!
Ordered Fragrant Eggplant and it was terrible; floating in oil and tasteless. And the Sesame Chicken was ketchup y now that's a weird Asian American dish . We also ordered udon noodles, though that was okay, the noodles weren't udon, they were spaghetti. Hot Joy is more of a Theme restaurant, with Theme restaurant quality food.
