This is a very elegant, formal dining experience. The staff is excellent and always around when you need them but never intrusive The food was superb. We had the course tasting menu. It was preceded by a number of small bites that we interesting and tasty. The presentation was simple and elegant, the food tasted great

Our top San Francisco restaurant ... bar none! Service is beyond impeccable

This landmark Italian cuisine establishment hits most of the high marks. It's a beautiful dining room, the cathedral-ceilinged space a former church interior. The four prix-fixe menus are extensive and interesting, offering price points . The extensive seasonal menu is, to use a current cliché, epic in scope and variety. Though a bit expensive, it's likely worth every penny. Wine list is deep and wide, its Italians as broad a selection as one might encounter anywhere, the proud result of years of careful curating, purchasing and refinement according to the knowledgeable and attentive sommelier. Several intriguing and delicious amusés-bouches were offered before and after the entrées. The waitstaff is old school, unobtrusive, helpful, friendly, thoroughly professional, so rarely found anymore a major plus. The food I ate was just one tiny notch below superb. At these prices it really should be better. Having said that, I urge patronage of this very fine establishment. There are too few restaurants anymore that reach the heights as this venerable and worthy temple of gastronomy and superb service. Grazie, Acquerello
