Must go back for two reasons: delicious food and...super friendly service, unfortunately the sky was not so clear that still need to check the view. Capanna food highly recommended
We stayed at the Capanna Monte Bar in January 2019 and it was an unforgettable experience. The landscape is only breathtaking, there are many hiking opportunities and the service of Giorgio and Alessandro was just excellent. All their food is made in...house, whether your perfect fondue dinner or your morning croissant or cake. The beds are comfortable and the rooms were warm, despite cold temperatures outside. Would recommend this place to anyone who visits Switzerland!
They reach the newly built capanna (lodge) of the Swiss alpenverein by climbing 600 meters from the village corteciasca. after about two thirds of the way they can observe the hearts of the peacefully proving highland cattle. these animals are pretty hideous, you can approach them on only two to three meters, even the cows with a calf. they'd rather go away from you than attack you. but they remain before the swing of their long horns and keep their dog on the leash! the capanna is a wooden cube built on a concrete foundation. weather allows them to enjoy the sun on the large terrace. service is fast and friendly. our server was fluent in Italian, German and French. I don't know about English, but I don't think it's a problem. the restaurant offers typical local cold and warm dishes such as affetato (air-dried ham and speck,) polnta with cheese or polpetton (meat hat) or risotto con lughanige. small but good selection of local wines through the glass or through the bottle. reasonable prices. enjoy the magnificent view from the capanna or climb another two hundred meters (half an hour) to the monte bar (1800 m height) and enjoy her coffee on the way down it is worth the effort!
After a nice walk at the top of the Monte Bar we made a stop for wine and dinner at this place. Friendly staff and really good!
After a long hike, the Capanna Monte Bar was a beautiful site for sore legs, and you are rewarded with a beautiful view of the lakes Maggiore and Lugarno. A frequent stayer in the Swiss Alpine Huts, Capanna Monte Bar is unlike any other I 've...visited, in particular due to it being so new. Rooms are in either 'group ' rooms or they have a few double rooms, which we had. The amenities are what you would expect in an alpine hut, bedding, a towel, and a shower. The shower was among the best I 've used in such huts very hot and great pressure! One thing to note, despite having our own own room, you can clearly hear fellow guests snoring. And I found the room to be very warm at night. In terms of food, overall I was satisfied with the quality, service and quantity. Lunch is off a chalkboard menu, and I was impressed that one of the employees shared with us that they actually call around to neighboring huts to find out what they are serving.... so as you don 't end up with a multi day hike and get served Alpine Macaroni or Paella every meal. Dinner was several courses, and local wine was available for purchase all good. Breakfast was a bit of a surprise. Typically people got to bed by 9pm and up early, so we were surprised when we were dressed and ready for breakfast at 7am, the hotel staff wasn 't up yet. (seems they don 't serve breakfast until 8 or 8.15.... I suppose I should have asked but no one told us this fact either. Recommendations to future guests: Bring ear plus if you 'll stay overnight, bring your hiking gear and fully explore the surroundings! Recommendations to management: Please ensure guests know what time breakfast is (it could even be posted at the table as an easy solution.
