All the items were well prepared, tasty and attractive to look at. The restaurant is on the boardwalk; we didn't sit outside because it was raining, but we had a table right next to the windows. This must have been a beautiful, large house. The bathroom was very clean.
Arrived at Schnitzelhaus not knowing if we should have brought wine - there is no license and you may NOT bring in wine either, so be prepared. The portions are very generous, with simple plating and taste. If you want hearty this is would be the place to come to. The terrace is lovely and is right on the Ste Anne canal.
I'm not an expert on German food (except for weinersnitzel) so my take on this place would be for those who have general North American tastes...we started out with a pair of dumplings which were pleasant but not much taste. The side salad we were presented with had a good choice of ingredients and a somewhat tasty dressing, although it left a puddle of water at the bottom of the bowl.we had a pork snitzel and a veal snitzel. Both were very tasty , well spiced and crunchy.. mmmmm !. The pork came with the red cabbage slaw, which was very tasty. The veal was ordered with the Spätzle , which neither of us likes due to its almost complete lack of taste. I apologize if thats what it was supposed to taste like. I didn't order fries, but from the looks of them at other tables... they did look like the frozen variety...The great thing is that the price of the snitzels were reasonable and most of the people, including myself, took enough of the large portion to have a meal the next day. We didn't have deserts but they looked wonderful...The staff was superb and attentive. No complaints there.
If you want great German food than this is the place to go. I came here with my parents and they loved it. The service and atmosphere was excellent . The restaurant is located at Saint Anne de Bellevue right by the locks. So if you wish you can have a nice walk on the boardwalk
As individuals of German Austrian heritage, we are familiar with Schnitzel. We had heard mixed reviews about this restaurant, but decided to give it a try. It is important to note that the restaurant is not wheelchair accessible. The patio is spacious, as is the interior of the restaurant. When we arrived, there were no customers inside, but there were 10 people on the patio. Unfortunately, parking was not available, so we had to park 8 blocks away on the street. The restaurant does not have a BYOB policy or a liquor license. However, the non-alcoholic beer was decent. I ordered the Wiener Schnitzel made with veal, which was satisfactory. The red cabbage was sweet but served in a small portion, and the "potatoes" were actually sliced frozen fries, rather than the traditional German potatoes. The choice was between fries or potatoes, and I was not expecting frozen, deep-fried slices. The service was attentive, although the waitstaff did not speak German, unlike the owners who do. We hope that they will eventually obtain a liquor license. Unfortunately, we did not have enough room for dessert.
