Staff were really helpful, although they didn't speak English they gathered from our limited franglais what we wanted. They were continually cleaning and clearing the tables and food areas. When we needed extra drinks and so on they were there. There was a good range of food, which was of a good temperature. We also enjoyed the desserts. The only thing my wife didn't enjoy was the melon which wasn't sweet enough for her taste. We were confident enough in the food to try the frogs legs, which we had never tried before, but really enjoyed. On our departure 2 members of staff held the door open so that she could wheel herself out using her rollator. They wished her goodnight in French, ending a really enjoyable night out. Just one caveat, the beer pression is Leffe and can be strong in a pint size if driving to the restaurant. The restaurant was every bit as good as similar buffet establishments I have used at home. The major difference being that the locals here know not to use their fingers to make food choices, also returning serving utensils to their correct place. All round good marks for price.
Decided not to eat at the Campanile next door. The Blue Lotus opens for the evening from 7pm. It's an all you can eat buffet, cost €16.90 per adult. Wide variety of food including some Chinese twists on French cuisine, frogs legs Chinese style! My wife doesn't eat meat so it was good to see lots of seafood and veggie options. The food was plentiful and a busy night meant it was refreshed regularly. They also have a fresh cooked wok area. Fresh fruit and dessert options were good with a nice range of ice creams. Soft drinks and alcohol not expensive, €3.30 for a bottle of beer. Great atmosphere, staff attentive, regularly taking plates away. Just over €43 for a meal for two, good value for money. Recommended.
Au Lotus Bleu is a great place to have a meal en route. The staff are nice, the food is always fresh and excellent value.
We arrived just before midday on our way back to England and found a parking place straight away, just outside the restaurant. It is a very popular place for the locals and it gets busy by 12.30 (parking may become an issue then). This is a self service restaurant with a wok/ stir-fry option and 'buffet à volonté' (You can help yourself as many time as you want (we could only manage once!) at lunch time). They also have different types of sushi. The selection of drinks is good and reasonably priced, they have a few draught beers. The food was freshly cooked with lots of variety (no vegetarian option on the buffet but the wok would). Lots of fresh fruit too for pudding. A good stop over at a very reasonable price (under €12 each without drinks).
I haven't been to a Chinese restaurant in France before (despite having come to France at least twenty times before). But I was surprised with the quality of the food that was on offer, however there could be a few more choices on offer. The service where the chef cooks a stir-fry in front of you is very unique (i've only been to such a thing once before), I'd avoid having the chicken to be on the safe side as meat is undercooked, I had the beef and it was still a little red underneath. The drinks are good value, and the house wine isn't bad at all. The service is quick and reliable. The ice cream is very delicious and slightly addictive - I had 4 servings of it. I would come back again.
