I 'm even somewhat accepting of the it done , less than stellar customer service that can be experienced at Jamaican restaurants, however this place falls so far below the decency of basic Jamaican service. Our family has patronized this Golden Krust through the multiple owners but will no longer. We were excited when it opened and have seen the decline since this last owner took over. We put up with unfriendly service. We even put up with overbaked patties. Since I love to support my Yardies, I first mentioned that the patties were overbaked, hoping for a change. No such luck. Then I figured that I could still support the sister by buying the patties frozen and baking myself. Well, that ended in disaster. She clumped all three dozen patties together wrapped in parchment paper. Stuffed them in a old ziplock bag (with a broken zipper) and pushed them in a shopping bag as she says you better put them in the freezer right away, cause them soft right now . Mind you, I had to wait for her to get them out of the back freezer and she made me wait till she served the 2 customers who were behind me in line because she seemed like she didn 't want to make the freezer walk. I asked for the foil pan that they usually come in and she said it 's only given when she bakes it there. The only reason I didn 't order them prebaked was because last time they were overdone, hard and barely edible. I immediately went home and put them in the freezer. This morning I took them out to find a frozen clumpped mess. I spent an hour trying to separate them for baking. I have baked patties before on multiple occasions (before Golden Krust opened near me I got patties from Hammonds in Miami and baked them perfectly at home). I am leaving this review so that no one will think that this place is representative of Jamaican restaurants and hopefully corporate will intervene and make this franchise location adhere to GK standards.
We arrived at the location at 930 in the morning. However there are only two options on the menu. The food is weird and the service attitude is cold. Also, they don't provide cup water and we have to buy bottles. Not big problem. But caveat emptor. I don't need to endure this especially when my family is present, visiting from abroad. I hope we being Asian did not play a factor in the treatment but I would not pin my hope for better treatment on my own wishful thinking. Conclusion: avoid, especially you are considered lower in their internalized racial totem pole.
Pros: The food is not bad. It works when you are in the mood for Caribbean cuisine, but it cannot cook itself. Cons: There are no prices everywhere. Not even online. I don't remember seeing a menu, but I had written what I wanted at home. Overall, I was happy. We ordered the ox flour, curry chicken flour, chicken patty (real good), and some pages because I don't eat much meat. My husband said the meat dishes were pretty good. The Roti is excellent. We prefer chickens over goats. It's a small place. The staff was friendly. Very similar to the Orlando Restaurant.
At 18:30 in the empty shop, for the first time. No prices for each of the articles. I asked the lady if I had a menu and was rudely told that she doesn't make any paper menus anymore. She said I have to go online for the menu. I said OK, where? After a few minutes you will find the GK website and put in my position, found a general menu, still without prices. I told her that and she has a list of products and prices much too fast to understand. I didn't order anything and I won't come back.
Life in New Mexico is our goal for our Jamaican repair. And I'm blessed to be married to a Jamaican, so he knows the best place to get the best food.
