The establishment reminded me of how Lebanese cafes in Lebanon worked, with the music and television turned on to authentic Lebanese entertainment, but the shawarma was amazing. For a picky eater, this would not be the best place to try your first shawarma, as it has very strong tahini and garlic flavors that might blast you away.
When I went for the first time the other day, I was pleasantly surprised. I got the falafel sandwich and was really happy with it. The falafels were really tasty, had a good crunch to it too. They also filled it enough to fill me up for lunch. Everything tasted very fresh. <br/ <br/ When I went back on a Monday, I decided to try their special of the day moussaka Monday! It came with hummus, pita bread, a salad of your choice and rice but instead of having it with rice I got the quinoa salad instead. The entire thing was delicious. I really loved their quinoa salad. It was a bit sweet with some dried cranberries and cashew nuts. It went really well with the mousakka. <br/ <br/ This place has become a regular go to place for me!
Greens Salad Bar may not be the most exciting name. But the place itself is very sweet. Ran by a Lebanese family, you sense the home made touch of the dough and fillings of the different fatayer and manakeesh. They offer a series of warm dishes (including what I hear is the best Chicken Shawarma and Falafel in the city), daily specials and a Lebanese inspired salad bar that is sold by weight and you can add to it some fatayer or meats. I skipped the salad bar and opted for a plate of humus, tabouleh and choice of 3 fatayer (I tried one of each of the meat, spinach and cheese). Somerville Kitchen Lebanese-authentic certified! Give it a try. Mediterranean Greens Salad Bar 812 Homer Street Vancouver, BC 604-694-1007
