Le Bistrot du Port

Chose this place as other were very busy. Great harbour view. Rather concerned that not many clients but could it go wrong with moules and tuna steak? Well, no it didn't but the tuna steak was dry (no sauce), although moules were big and tasty. Good frites too. Decent carafe of wine. No problems but I can imagine some being a little disappointed. Not a classic, but decent tourist nosh (at least for us) and service.

We were in La Rochelle for a couple of days only. Had a dog in tow so was a little restricted. We came across this place on a saturday evening, located in a side street from the main harbour area. Had not read any previous reviews but received a good reception. We had Whelks (Bulot) as a starter which were really nice followed by scallops on a bed of tagliatelle interwoven with ribbons of carrot and courgette dressed with a mild curry sauce. It was delicious! Also got tempted into having a sweet and took a chamce on a Green Tea Gourmond, Wow! the combination is wonderful. Maybe had had a little bit too much wind by this point but really enjoyed it all and thought the price was reasonable for the quality on offer.

Arrived for lunch, the place was busy but not crowded. We took our time to have a drink before ordering, however the waitress we had was obviously having a very bad day! Her whole manner throughout our lunch was disappointing. The final straw was her cleaning each of the plates off in front of one of us whilst we were sitting at the table. Shame as food was good, situation was nice but service abysmal.

On a wonderful June day last year we sat under the shade with a glass of chilled rose to study the menu. Then our neighbours were served fragrant steaming bowls of lovely looking mussels no need for menu any more! These really were excellent and served by friendly staff. The view over the marina wasn't bad either!

Crêpes for their quality. I forgot a scarf on a chair. One of the waitresses remembered finding him and set aside. When I went back, he had disappeared from the corner of the found objects that lies in the back of the kitchen. I don't recommend this place at all.
