Having a separate fryer is crucial for preventing cross-contamination for those with celiac disease, so this was a dealbreaker for my friend. When I asked if any of the two vegetarian options could be made vegan, a staff member indicated they weren't sure and recommended that I not order either. It would be beneficial for management to properly train their staff regarding menu accommodations for vegan and gluten-free diets, rather than resorting to uncertain responses. Though my friend decided to go ahead and order a whiskey while we sat inside, it's unfortunate that their menu organization is lacking because this location in Old Sacramento has great potential. I wouldn't consider returning unless they provide clearly marked vegan options and ideally implement a dedicated fryer for those who are gluten-free.
Finnegan is a must-visit when you're in Old Sacramento. It is owned by the same proprietors as the River City Saloon located just down the block.
Mateo the bartender is fantastic, and I really appreciate the ambiance. I will definitely be back soon!
I wasn't sure that a Bretzel bread for a sandwich, but it was soft as a normal bread, though undersized. we were disappointed by their stateman who was advertised as Irish donuts. they were fried, flocky teig, seemed a bit overcooked, sprinkled with powder sugar on top, and not like a donut in texture or sweet. I would rather have passed on to those who are for a sweet tasty elsewhere in old sac.
Irish coffee and pretzel with beer cheese was awesome. Cool little area it is in as well.
