As for the nigiri, which really should have been quick to prepare, we had to ask the server three times before it finally came out after we had already finished everything else. That said, the food is excellent, albeit a bit pricey. I would recommend visiting on a less busy day.
Definitely worth a visit! The tempura and rolls were excellent, and the sashimi was fresh. However, the service was slower than expected; other tables that arrived after us were served more quickly, which made the wait feel longer. Nevertheless, we’re willing to give it another shot.
After dining at O-Toro a few times already, I was looking forward to another visit. I brought along a friend who regularly enjoys a variety of local Japanese restaurants and is a sushi lover. As usual, the food was fantastic. However, we were quite disappointed after waiting about an hour while three other couples were seated, ordered, and received their meals, leaving us with nothing but our drinks. The restaurant was not busy when we arrived. After expressing our frustration, we were given a bowl of edamame, but still had to wait for our two sushi rolls. While we appreciated the 10% discount applied to our bill, we would have preferred a quicker meal so we wouldn’t have to worry about making it to our theater show on time. We had a reservation at 6:15, our food arrived at 7:25, and we left by 7:45. I might consider returning solely because the food is good, but if the service remains lacking, it will likely be my last visit, especially since there are many excellent Japanese restaurants in town.
The spicy O TORO SPICY RAMEN is one of my top choices in Sacramento right now. The noodles, broth, and meat are all fantastic, and I have to say, they must do something special with their egg to make it taste so good. The MIDTOWN ROLL was also outstanding with a great sauce and a fresh flavor. Everything was packaged nicely as well.
I hoped that the higher prices would reflect better quality, but unfortunately, that wasn’t the case. The J Street Roll was just average and definitely didn’t surpass the $15 rolls from other sushi restaurants.
