Philo Cafe - Saarbrücken

I come here whenever there are no vegan options at Mensa. The owner is incredibly nice. They have a daily vegan dish and two other options. They always have little vegan treats. Most days uses up all the prepared food, so don't go too late!

Große vegane Auswahl und der herzliche Inhaber berät einen gerne. Falls das gewünschte Gericht bereits ausverkauft ist, stellt er etwas anderes zusammen. Alles ist frisch, sehr schmackhaft gewürzt, die Portionen sind ordentlich und der Preis wirklich günstig. Schade, dass ich schon lange nicht mehr auf dem Campus studiere und das Philo Café ziemlich versteckt ist (er bräuchte auch dringend mal ein neues Schild man kann das alte gar nicht mehr lesen, das gegenüber der SULB aufgestellt ist). Ich hoffe, dass trotzdem genug Studierende, Dozierende oder andere Uni Leute dort regelmäßig hingehen, damit es sich noch ganz ganz lange hält und vielleicht noch irgendwann eine zweite Filiale in der Innenstadt? Awesome to have such place on campus! Nice owners that for their guests. And the food tastes great. Could offer proper student pricing though.

PhiloCafé clearly label their numerous vegan and vegetarian options including the desserts. In fact, nine out of twelve daily dishes are meat free. The owner is very welcoming and easy to talk to. He´s enthusiastic about his place and their food for a reason: Everything is freshly prepared on the spot. He even imports the spices himself from his home country Iran to ensure the perfect spice mix. Prices are student friendly. If I were still a uni student I´d definitely eat there every day. So far I´ve tried 3 different savoury dishes at PhiloCafé and in two cases I would have preferred more sauce. For dessert I had the Persian rice pudding, which tasted absolutely beautiful and was heavily scented with rose water. The new premises look a lot nicer than the previous ones.
