Cafe Matisse - Rutherford

While it is half an hour away from home, we eat here several times a year. That was one of those special occasions, our wedding day. It is our favorite restaurant in all NJ. I would probably extend this area anywhere. The fact that it makes BYOB very easy to swallow the healthy price of their menu. Considering the quality and ambience, it is quite expensive. If you like a good bottle with your food, this is the place to splash on a really special bottle, because the food is simply excellent and interesting about description. Bring a large bottle of wine and enjoy one of the best meals you can have anywhere on the planet.

Great food, servings are generous. Could easily pay 2 or even 3 times for this type of meal in the city. Our waiter was excellent!! Will see how the menu often changes.

Love this place! Food is excellent! Service over the top! The atmosphere is beautiful! Have only gone during the winter (Valentines) but it looks like they have a lovely garden area out back that would be great!

May be the best place to eat in NJ especially for special occasions. Chef is a genius, wait staff is friendly and knowledgeable, service impeccable. But don't go expecting a quick meal even if you go for just the the 3 courses. This is leisurely with nice spacing between courses so put down your phone, bring a fabulous bottle of wine, settle in, hold hands, talk and enjoy. If the weather is nice sit outside. Larry has created an inspired garden that should not be missed.

From the moment you open the door you are greeted by wonderful staff. The ambiance is beautiful!! I sat out back breathtaking..I had the 4 course meal.. needless to say everything I ate was delicious.. I even took some home., lastly the sang Happy Birthday.. I was serenaded by a wonderful voice and amazing brownie dessert.. I have to say 5 stars and recommend it to all!! Cindy
