Despite being February it was very warm so we sat outside. We had coffee which was good even by my standards and cheesecake which wasn't too sweet. Its definitely worth stop!
Dinner at Die Rose isn 't just a meal out, it 's an experience. From the warm welcome when you arrive, to the traditional and atmospheric dining room, to the attentive yet relaxed service, you 'll have an evening to remember. Currently on offer is a vegetarian tasting menu consisting of five courses, plus a choice of fine meats and fish to add on if you wish. There 's also a wonderful cheese trolley and of course, this being Switzerland a chocolate trolley (both optional). Each course is previewed by a tiny, jewel like amuse bouche reflecting the ingredients of the next course. As befits a Michelin 1 star restaurant, the food is exquisite: seasonal, pairing interesting tastes and textures, and a real voyage of culinary discovery. The restaurant offers matching wines for each course and you can order some wines by the glass. Although the courses are not huge, it 's easy to eat so much of the delicious bread and butter that you quickly fill up. Remember that cookies and sweets will arrive automatically after the optional cheese and chocolate trolleys. This is not a cheap evening but it 's worth every franc. Go for a treat and enjoy not only wonderful gastronomic surprises, but service from friendly professionals who make dining at Die Rose a true delight.
Excellent in every way. We booked short notice and later realised that we were lucky to get a table in the wonderful little Taverna. Staff were excellent. Food was excellent, and in some cases quite inspirational. Wines were excellent, although the selection in the Taverna is limited. Atmosphere was warm and welcoming, with several families also dining, and they were very accommodating of our young son. Will be back many times again how did we not know about this place before?!
Recently I have used Gault&Millau 's website to choose restaurants. I go to map ,browse and choose depending on my read of the report and of course the occasion. We chose the Rose because it has a nice garden, shadowed by leafy treas. And I hoped that the fine dining would find its way to the Italian flavored bistrot on the groundfloor. The fine dining being closed for the summer. But I was utterly disappointed. Out of curiosity I started with a noix gras, which is the vegetarian version of foie gras, with soft freshly made brioche bread and apricot compote. I ll stick to liver...... Main dish were ricotta raviolis in a lemon sauce that resembled more a juice than a sauce. I was way too watery. So was the tuna/mayo sauce of my son 's vitello tonnato and the shrimp pasta (he had ordered bolognese) . Luckily he was hungry.... My wife 's veggie terrine was good, but not overwhelming and polenta with luganighette (small italian sweet sausage) was ok. Not only did the fine dining the place boosts not find its way downstairs, but what we ate was less than average.
