I would recommend the lounge for a drink but not for a full meal worth the wait for a table downstairs. The shrimp with yuzu app was tasty, the sashimi was fresh, sushi was okay (not bad but not super memorable). My boyfriend and I both got the whiskey sours and they were very tart. I would come back for the ambiance and the apps/sake. Random critique but organize the menus! It was kind of challenging to shuffle through the three menus front and back as some had similar food items/cocktails and others had different. Streamlining the menu would do wonders.
Ronin is one of the very best choices for sushi. Located in downtown Royal Oak and street parking is available on all sides. The decor is heavy wood and leathers giving it a modern rustic look. But the ambiance is a vibe which gives a very modern feel. Although there are tables in the dining area me and my crew love hanging in the lounge on the comfy leather sofas. The food is tasty! There are specialty sushi rolls like the sea monster and the BLT roll that you can't get anywhere else. And they have happy hour and seasonal offerings. The lemon jasmine rice is excellent. There is a full bar and the craft cocktails are always on point. If you're in the mood to lounge with friends and eat some good sushi, then Ronin is the spot!
Always a solid experience at ronin!!! Sushi and cocktails never disappoint and the staff is always knowledgeable and up beat. The lounge atmosphere makes it a perfect date night destination.
My apologies but this was a-bit low on my scale for sushi. I wasn't a fan of the seating because everyones knees could touch the plates. The interior was nice and dark how i like it, but something about the choice in lighting felt odd. For the food. The Tuna tartare had wayyy too many tomatoes that are very overpowering to begin with which made me feel like i was eating a bowl of tomatoes and chips. The ribs were best thing on the table but heavily relied on the sauce and were not seasoned underneath it at all. They were very tender, but gave me the feeling they were not fresh. I was truly not a fan of the melted cheese roll. I have never had nor seen a roll like that, but the concept is interesting however the flavor was bland and oily from the cheese. The rolls in total looked amazing but were honestly a bit underwhelming and the only one i liked was drenched in sauce (helped it alot) Also waffle fries on a sushi place menu confused me a bit i wont say a solid 3 but a 2.7 suffices
Great sushi but pricy. You pay for the atmosphere which is great. The lounge is nice in the summer with the doors open. The cocktails rotate and are always good. Service is great.
