The Barrel's Head - Rothesay

On Sunday afternoon we decided rater another summer BBQ, let’s stop in at the Barrels head. They keep updating and refreshing the menu so this time we noticed a local donair. Well let’s just say, wow! Not a traditional donair as the meat is cut thick like a meatloaf and best eaten with a fork and knife. Two people could share it along with another one of their appetizers. Add to this the Hammond River Brewery is fully functional, you know have three great spots all in one location when you add in Peddlers Creek. Never been disappointed at the Barrels Head, service, food, atmosphere and experience always spectacular.

My husband loves the Barrels Head, service is always great with a good menu and lots of variety on tap. Great addition to Quispamsis.

We have been here many times over past few years. When it opened the food was very good, some nice dishes and quality was great. In past year or so they seem to have changed the menu to more of a pub menu with mostly deep fried meats and fishes...not loving that. The past 3 times we have been in we have left underwhelmed. Food lately seems like cooks are not the same, meats are frequently overcooked and hard/tastless, sauces are either bland or way too acidic...no one seems to be sampling before it is sent out. Had the schnitzel sandwich last time with the marinated pickles...could not eat it as it was so acidic and vinegary...told the server when he came and all he did was say that it is a very different flavor profile..no offer to discount or apology even though nearly the whole sandwich was on the plate. think this will be our last try at this restaurant though it makes me sad as I would love to keep supporting local. Hope they turn the food quality around!

We celebrated my wife's birthday on the weekend and had ordered from the new menu. WOW, sums it up and then some. We shared the new flatbread that was just amazing along with the Adobo Wings that never disappoint. I had seen the Schnitzel Sando on the menu a month or so ago but we were just in for a couple rinks and not dinner. Ever since it's been on my mind and well Saturday was time and what a great meal. The combination of the meat with the sauerkraut and dressing was spectacular. Because of the appetizers I had taken half the sandwich home and well my wife got to it on Sunday before I could. Her main course was the Beef Bulgogi Rice Bowl which we brought some home so a very fair swap. This dish does have a bit of heat to it but you can ask for the jalapeno's on the side or do as i did and added them to my sandwich. From the draft selection, ambiance and staff, this is a can’t miss place and a must do if you’re in the Saint John area. Hammond River Brewery is part of the expansion for the new year so just another great local reason to visit, enjoy and become a friend...

Lots of people rave about this place but after three visits - all of them substandard- I can't find anything to recommend this restaurant.
