I looked around, confused, and realized she was speaking to me. I asked if she was addressing me, and she repeated her claim about the bags not being free. I informed her that I had indeed paid for it and suggested she check the register receipt. She replied that it wasn't showing on her screen. I then pulled out my receipt to prove it, but she didn’t offer any response or apology. It’s frustrating to think that employees often overlook theft in the store unless they witness it directly, yet I was accused of stealing a paper bag. It would have been much more courteous for her to approach me more politely and privately, and then apologize for the misunderstanding. Clearly, there is a lack of training in these situations.
I've been shopping at this particular Winco for years and years. Lower prices for the exact same products than their nearby competitors. And that includes Walmart which has been raising prices quite a bit lately while apparently cutting back even more on their poorly treated employees. Winco opens registers when needed, Walmart closes them. Winco keeps their shelves well stocked while Walmart is becoming a mess with piles of freight everywhere on the floor blocking people yet no one to work them. And Winco is clean which is something most customers want when shopping for groceries. My purchases today included a loaf of seeded sandwich bread 1.69 vrs over 2 at Walmart , a box of Raisin Bran 3.74 vrs 3.89 , some Hormel deli meat 2.99 vrs 3.49 , sweet chili chicken wings 4.99 a lb. vrs 5.99 , a variety of Progresso soups 30 cents savings on each can . I also bought some Winco brand yogurt, cheese and milk plus various things in the produce department. All the shelves had their proper price tags as would be expected in a professionally run operation. The floors were clean as was the restroom. Just the usual attractive and well stocked store I have come to expect. Why people shop elsewhere and pay anything from pennies to dollars more for the exact same products is beyond me.
I picked up some food here before heading to Tahoe for the winter. This place has fantastic prices and a great selection. We primarily explored the produce and bakery sections. I really wish Winco had locations in Southern California, although I could do without the fluorescent cafeteria lights. A pleasant surprise was waiting for me in the pizza section on my way out. I ordered a veggie calzone, mistakenly thinking it was ready to eat, but they recommend baking it at home. We had it for dinner, and it was delicious straight from the oven!
I've always appreciated WinCo for its great value, excellent selection, and outstanding customer service. However, today something happened that will make me a loyal customer for life! I accidentally left my coin pouch at the cash register. While it didn't contain much cash, it did have some important cards. I only realized it was missing a few hours later and checked again the next morning. Guess what? It was still there! I am forever grateful to Patrick, who found it and gave it to the manager. Not only did I save myself a lot of frustration, but this experience has renewed my faith in humanity. Thank you, Patrick, and thank you, WinCo!
