Every time I visit Rosario I also manage to have lunch or dinner at Lo Mejor Del Centro. I have done so for the last 18 years. The restaurant has changed name a few times. The quality of the meat has no comparison, and the ability of the asador is amazing. Great choice of wines. Service is great and you will feel at home. If you are an asado lover or a beafeater, like I am, won’t be disappointed and will be back again, again, and again! Buen provecho!
This place was recommended to us by our hotel and it did not disappoint. Our server Fernando who we later learned was one of the 10 owners) was amazing in navigating us through the menu. It is easy to over order here as the portions are massive. He recommended the short ribs which were spot on. Topped with chimichurri it was a burst of flavour. The fat melted like butter in your mouth along with the meat. The wine was what is to be expected here and the service is like most in Argentina. Great family vibe as this restaurant seems to be a gathering place for all. Overall this was one of the cheapest meals we had in Argentina $600.000 ARG). It has been so fantastic to us that we’ve gone 3 times in 3 days!
I had been to Rosario before, and I 'd eaten at Lo Mejor del Centro. My memory was that the lunch specials were quality cooking, very filling; and quite inexpensive. On my most recent trip to Argentina, I found myself in Rosario again, and I ate at Lo Mejor del Centro again. My memory was not wrong. The lunch specials were great; and they were just as I remembered wonderfully inexpensive. For 95 pesos or less, you get a small appetizer, a main course with a side dish (I usually had an oven cooked steak with potatoes); a drink (I usually had a small carafe of wine); and desert. [I said usually because the lunch deal is so good that I ate there several times during my most recent nine day stay in Rosario. And there is no extra cubierto (or cover charge) added to the lunch prices. The place looks like it would be also great for dinner (a nice parrilla), but I can 't say for sure. My friends always had other plans for me at dinner time. _______________ The actual price doesn 't matter because prices are always changing (going up, 25% nationwide annual inflation rate) in Argentina. But the price of this lunch special was low when compared to other lunch specials in the area. And the quantity and quality of the food was high when compared to other lunch specials in the area.
This restaurant/steakhouse is a hole in the wall that is popular with locals for its quality and price. It was recommended by my hotel because of its short walking distance, but I wasn 't disappointed. I ordered the bife de lomo which is the equivalent of a filet mignon and asked for it to be muy juguso or very rare, because the beef in Argentina tends to be a bit overcooked, and the waiter delivered a masterpiece. The portion was huge and grilled to perfection. I wanted to order some side dishes, but seeing the cuts of meat on other diners ' plates, I knew one entrée would be enough and it was! The ambience is that of a local diner in the US. Seating is tight and not particularly comfortable but it 's just a small inconvenience for the food. Waiters are not attentive, but that is normal in Argentina. But, the prices are very fair. I paid 90 pesos (about $10 with the blue market exchange) for a huge cut of filet mignon....a bargain!
We had a group dinner at best and the staff was fantastic to get us in and out in a more reasonable time period for a group of 45 people. the food was very good and, in general, it was a pleasant experience.
