The owner is a lovely lady who speaks good English and has a nice sense of humour The food is delicious simple well prepared dishes and the Tavern is a classic medieval building full of history and located by the river. You will not be disappointed by the selection of fresh meat salads (salads are exceptional) and fresh vegetables. You will be even less disappointed when you pick up the bill. Incredible value to enjoy good food in such a comfortable historic bistro. A true French experience which I hope you enjoy as much as we did. If you are lucky enough to dine there please tell the Lady you found the place in Trip Advisor she will appreciate the good word is getting out for a small bistro hidden away in the middle of France. Restaurants like the Petite Tavern need to survive so we can enjoy true French cuisine at an affordable price.
We found this little gem on our way to Amboise from Sancerre. We took a little side trip to have lunch in a little town (Romarantin) we both had the plat de jour with an entree for me and a dessert for my husband. The three courses were all delicious and as we arrived just before noon we were able to get the last available table without a reservation. It is always a good idea to try to get a reservation for lunch in advance, even a few minutes can make the difference between a great lunch and a poor one because you couldn’t get in. My first course was a salad with a delicious soft leek tart and our entree was chicken drumsticks with fries and a small green salad. The chicken was tender and very flavorful. My husband’s dessert was Pear Helene with whip cream and chocolate sauce. The price was reasonable. Lunch for the two of us with 2 glasses of wine and 2 coffees was 41€.
First Time in Romorantin, it was a so délicious moment with so good french food . Thank You Marie-luce and staff !
Very welcoming owners, nice terrace by the river. Good home style food cheerfully and promptly served. Reasonably priced. Only negative was motorcycles zooming by on a Friday evening.
