The people giving poor reviews for this outstanding restaurant sound like typical tourists that think they are in the USA. If they had read anything about Italy, they know you must ADAPT to old customs. First, the food was among the best we found and we have traveled all over Italy many times. We were lucky to come upon this excellent restaurant and found the service by several very friendly young men quick and they were attentive all the time. I made a note that the spinaci was sensational and a large portion that must have taken several bunches of spinach to make, and the portions of very good pasta were normal, not huge as in the USA, and cooked perfectly. The price was lower than it should have been for this top notch quality meal, a nice bonus. Highly recommend this delightful restaurant with good outdoor seating as well.
Best meal in Rome so far! We stumbled across this place as we had some very poor experiences with the restaurants that had views of the Colosseum and thought we would try one that was still close to our hotel but maybe more local. We had the 3 pasta (chefs choice) and a mista salad. All 3 of the pastas were fabulous but the risotto was the very best, so creamy and flavourful. The mista salad was fresh and interesting with fennel and olives. We shared a tiramisu, renewed my love of it once again!! We sat on the patio, only downside was the smokers but when in Rome……
Wow wow wow! We were short on time and thought this would be tourist trap level food but we were very wrong. I had the spaghetti with garlic, chilli and walnuts and it was fantastic. It had quite a kick but so much flavour! Good for gluten free and some vegan options too. Would recommend
An April dinner and May lunch proved outstanding. Isidoro, not far from the Colosseum on a quiet street, seems to attract Rome natives more than tourists--an excellent sign. A few dinner highlights: the remarkably inventive, and generous, white fennel-root salad with artichoke hearts and black olives, like nothing you have ever tasted; the turbot crusted with artichokes and potatoes; and the sea bream with bread crumbs, celery, and apple butter. For dessert, the sbriciolata--a sort of phyllo-like pastry, with crisp sheets interleaved with pastry cream and fresh berries and tiny chocolate chips--or the three cannoli with pistachio, hazelnut, etc., fillings, are sure winners. At lunch on a crowded, bustling holiday Monday afternoon, we enjoyed the whole scene, from families with babies to boisterous groups of young singles, and had terrific shrimp and aubergine pie with basil cream and thin toasts; and a saffron risotto with prawns, asparagus, and a turmeric sauce. Have you ever had those combinations? Inventive and brilliant. And we had the same desserts. Who could resist? Convivial, a very solid value (85 Euro for dinner with drinks, 62 Euro for lunch with drinks, plus we tip), inventive, and dependably excellent, and an easy walk from the Colosseum subway stop.
