Asahi Japanese - ROCKY HILL

Very cheap lunch, decent food, but boring atmosphere. The interior is outdated which is okay. Everything costs money and I understand that but there wasn 't any music playing during my visit. This made my experience boring to a point where I became sleepy. But it was a slow day towards the end of lunch hours and my table was basically one of the couple that were occupied. The staff being bored out of their minds as this place is almost empty got my food out very quickly which is important. Trust me, I 've been to a couple places where it 's dead but still took ages for my food to arrive. Bento boxes here are a little different from the ones I 've had elsewhere. Elsewhere usually has a protein of choice, rice, shumai, sometimes tempura and a basic roll. Here at Asahi they had hibachi noodles (slightly bland purposely as you are supposed to mix with the sauce and protein, just a heads up) white rice, protein of choice, California Roll, $2 tempura option, and diced pineapple from a can. Like what? Canned pineapple for dessert I guess! In their defence, my Beef Teriyaki Bento Box was $7.95 which is a few dollars cheaper than most other places. Also comes with soup and salad btw. So yes I am a fan of the prices, the meal was filling and like I said the food is decent, nothing amazing but nothing bad either. Just something passable for cheap lunch that would put a slight smile on my face. The staff was very friendly too, everyone seemed very nice. Oh right! I ordered sushi! Spicy Salmon and Spicy Crabmeat which were good as well, I notice they were on the drier side if you no what I mean but I 'm not complaining, super cheap for two rolls at lunch. My experience was so boring that I forgot I had sushi! I 'm joking, but this was a very forgettable experience for me but being a local around here as it took 5 minutes to get here, this place is good enough to be an option for me considering the prices. 3 Stars from a local, no way I 'd drive 30 minutes for this place. But that 's just my experience, hopefully things go uphill from here.

I had a late lunch with my daughter at Asahi.. we had a luncheon special. Started off with soup and salad and then three rolls for a special price of 8.95. It was salad and the soup and everything delicious .. I would recommend this restaurant for sushi for a nice lunch or maybe even a nice dinner. And the prices are extremely reasonable. Yummy !

For central CT there aren't many great sushi buffets, it kind of boils down to Asahi and Suhi House. We came on Saturday afternoon and was 1 of 4 tables, it was quiet. The fried foods were excellent. Light and crisp, inside was moist. They came out immediately after ordering. Their sushi took a while like 25 minutes after we put in the order. It was one mature sushi chef handling the orders. So keep that in mind. Once the sushi order came, it looked like a nice spread. As with all you can eat sushi buffets, the rice to fish ratio was like 70/30 most of the time. That's to be expected. I'd recommend Asahi to get your sushi buffet fix. It's above average. Just manage your expectations. The staff were all friendly and pleasant.

For the price of an all-you-can-eat sushi place, this was very good! The one dish that prevented a 5-star review was one of the rolled sushi fell apart (when it never did before). My party of 5 included 3 big eaters and the servers were very accommodating. The shrimp tempura was not as crispy as we've had at other places, another reason for the 4 stars. All other items were well made. The chicken katsu, the udon, the avacado salad were all well prepared. We will be back.

Definitely on the better side of average. If I lived in the neighborhood, Asahi would likely be my go to sushi spot, although it's hard to justify a 20 minute drive from Hartford. My husband and I were in the area and dropped in for a quick dinner in and out within 45 minutes, which hit the perfect balance of efficient, yet not rushed. I started with the sashimi appetizer (decent) and moved on to the Green Dragon roll with eel and cucumber wrapped in avocado. Though sans rice, it was delicious. Nick's spicy roll combo was great (LOVEEE when it's not drenched in mayo) as was his yuki salad with salmon, tuna, yellowtail, avocado, cucumber, seaweed, masago and sesame with miso sauce. Bright, fresh flavors probably the best dish of the night. The interior is pretty shabby in dire need of an update but staff were friendly and service was quick. A good standby if you're in the area!
