Teppan Japan - Roanoke

I visit Teppan Japan frequently enough that the staff recognizes me and my regular order. They are fantastic and consistently maintain high quality. I've heard many complaints about their friendliness and how they seem to ignore customers, but I've never experienced that during my three years of visiting. While the fans on the grill can get quite loud—something I can appreciate from my own time working in food service—the sushi is always delicious, the rice is consistently excellent, and everything else I've tried has been amazing.

The food here is wonderful, and the service is commendable. I ordered a sizable meal that I shared with my children. The woman in front of me always looks lovely when I pass by, which encouraged me to give it a try. The teriyaki flavor was fantastic, and there was an ample amount of meat in my dish. Unlike some other reviews I've read, my food wasn’t greasy at all, so they may have made some improvements. I definitely recommend trying this place; I think you’ll enjoy it as much as I did!

The food is mediocre, but the chicken was quite dry. The owner, Yao, is a bit odd and gives off a suspicious vibe. I certainly don't trust Teppan Japan. My son mentioned that he felt sick after our last visit. He works in the mall and noted that he doesn't see many customers here.

I was really sick last time. The food is pretty good, but I think they use some old shrimps or something. Some of my shrimps tasted strange... not complaining to the owner or his wife. They are rude people. They'll probably ignore you. I also heard that the owner, yao, is a really strange type of 3 people.

Mediocre japanese/ asian cuisine. I was in the mall recently and tried Teppan. The stores appearance is kind of attractive but I suggest going elsewhere. I left a little sick. Not throwing up sick just a belly ache. The first 2 or 3 bites were good but the more you eat the more of a belly ache you get. I complained to the owner and the owners wife. The owners wife was fiddling with these big yellow bottles that sit below the cookers. I said “ Excuse me.” Almost 6 times. I know she heard me but she ignored. The owner finally came over and told me they were too busy right now. They didn't even have any customers besides my wife and I. My wife and I just walked away. At the nearby Sbarros, an employee there told me the owner of Teppan speaks negatively about customers and often ignores complaints. The Sbarro employee also added that they often have people come to their store and complain about Teppan Japans food.
